Pivot point not rotating

Hi all,

I have a spline which i rotated 45 degrees:

If i click on it i see a pivot point which isnt aligned with the spline:

I figured i could use "hierarchy" -> "affect pivot only" and "rotate" to rotate the pivot point:

As you can see a new pivot point was created which is aligned as how i would want it.

However.. after changing the pivot point i press right click and move to try my new pivot point but it just shows my old pivot point which isnt aligned:

My question is: Why does the pivot point pops back in his old position in stead of the new position I gave him with "affect pivot only"?

The pivot is controlled by the reference coordinator drop down.  While this gives you most of the options you may need, if you need a custom orientation, you can create a helper called tape, and align it how you want an axis to exist, then click "pick" in the drop down, and you should now have a custom setting in the drop down giving you your custom outcome.  [Right side of attached image]

In left side of attached image, I clicked on screen, and you see the pivot aligned to the screen.  Read help on this and mess with it.  You will get comfortable with it after a shot while.
