Move tool weird behaviour in perspective view (keeps snapping)

Hello, I have the same problem that was described here and here, but there are no any real solution in theese topics exept of "start a fresh project".

Is the behaviour like on the video a bug or is it some lovely feature that I need to turn off?

Note that i have no problem in Top (and any other orthographic view) but only in perspective, which is even weirder.

Hi!

I just had this issue and here are some solutions:

If the Move tool in 3ds Max 2018 is always snapping, here’s how you can fix it:

1. Check Snaps Toggle (S Key)

  • Press S to toggle snapping on or off.
  • If snapping is on, you'll see the Snaps Toggle icon highlighted in the toolbar.

2. Check Snap Settings

  • Right-click the Snaps Toggle button (🔲) in the toolbar.
  • Ensure Grid and Snap Settings are configured correctly.
  • Try disabling Grid Points or any unnecessary snap options.

3. Check Constraints

  • Go to Main Toolbar > Constraints Dropdown (next to Select and Move).
  • Set it to None if it's on something like "Grid" or "Face".

4. Check Axis Constraints

  • Ensure you're not locked to a specific axis.
  • Try moving while holding Shift or changing the transform gizmo mode.

5. Reset User Preferences

  • If the issue persists, reset preferences:
    1. Close 3ds Max.
    2. Navigate to:
      C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2018 - 64bit\
    3. Rename the ENU folder to ENU_old.
    4. Restart 3ds Max (it will create a new ENU folder with default settings).

I my case I just had to push "S" and "problem solved!

hope this helps others too!!
