How do I fix this geometry?

Hi!

I've encountered a problem when extruding the ceiling of a room I'm trying to recreate.

Here's a screen of the situation: http://puu.sh/9bVh6/c936cd4d3a.png

so I thought I could just extrude the ceiling and now I sit here thinking about how I can connect these vertices to the rest of the element. If I don't do it, it won't be correct geometry, right?

Simply inserting a Swift Loop or Cutting the main object and then trying to weld the vertices together doesn't work (Why?).

Would appreciate some help, this is my first custom 3dsMax Object (recreating my own room).

You're on the right track - almost. You do need to slice/cut/loop/connect/whatever, but you must remove the narrow polys created by doing that along the 3 walls (or 2 - can't tell from the image) and also the matching ones on the ceiling section. Then the vertices should weld.

Do a simple test with 2 touching boxes. Attach them so they're 1 object - the vertices around the touching polys won't weld, but remove those 2 polys and they will. Same principle on your building.
