Chamfer Issue

I imported a STEP model into 3ds Max and applied a chamfer to the edge of a part. However, the result turned out like Image 01. I tried to limit the effect(shown in Image 02), the strange sharp spikes are gone, but the chamfer effect on the edges of the small hole doesn't look as good as in Image 01. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks! The file is attached.

1st, you shouldn't add chamfer on a tri-mesh , chamfer is a quad-mesh based function , if you refuse to quadify your model , you should change chamfer mode to tri , not uniform , which was very lousy , worse than you had got.

2cd , your model has a smallest hard edge would be chamfered only with a 0.003 mm area , but you give it a 0.5 mm chamfer , when you give a big quad chamfer to a small area edge , it will be fly out along the normal when chamfered edge touch the border of the face , that's why so many thorns in your model.

3rd, when you enabled limit effect , all area to too small would be limited to expand , this will prevent vertex fly out and face become degenerated.

a easy fix way was re-poly the out hole topology to uniform quadify , if other area needed , some

Thanks for your reply. I have three questions:

  1. If I want to chamfer the model by 1 mm, how can I achieve that?
    I tried to quadify the model, but the chamfer didn't turn out as expected, even when I reduced the amount to 0.1(please refer to Image 01)

  2. I failed to apply anisotropic reflection to the top surface of my model, even though the same material works fine on a teapot. Do you know how to fix this?
    Please refer to Image 02, I use Corona 13 as the renderer. The material map is in Image 03.

  3. Issue with Anisotropic Reflection on a Cylinder

    I created a cylinder without any chamfering, and initially, there was no anisotropic reflection. Even after applying a Chamfer modifier in Smooth Chamfers Only mode, the anisotropic reflection still didn’t appear (refer to Image 04).
    However, when I switched the mode to Smooth Entire Object, the anisotropic reflection became visible (refer to Image 05).
    That said, there’s still a flaw — in the center of the top surface, there’s a perfectly flat circular area where the anisotropic reflection is missing (refer to Image 06).

for chamfer , usually not add to whole model , select edges at edit_poly , and add chamfer , only selected will be chamfered , add stacks for every group of edges need chamfer

for anisotropic , plane won't act as curved surface ,it can't reflect highlight area by any angle ,you can only see it from angle of reflection
infact , anisotropic works well , you can set a hdr as reflection environment ,  check it

for last , the wrong anisotropic of plane was a bug of corona , it won't show an acceptable highlight , same model will work well with vray , and 2 renderer shows different heightlight
