GoZ opens new instance of Max

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hey everyone, I can't seem to figure this one out and I'm hoping someone has a solution. I've got 3ds Max 2018 and Zbrush 4R8 P1 and the GoZ function just isn't working like it used to in Max 2014.

Max>Zbrush = fine, no problem
Zbrush>Max = model goes back to original Max scene, but also opens a new instance of 3ds max with nothing in the scene.

After the fight with this problem all day, I found it.  It is in the OBJ import options, Reset scene.

You need to import an OBJ and disable Reset Scene option to the OBJ Import Options.

Same here - could be a ZB issue ?

Works with max 2017. So it has to be a max problem. I have Goz working in 2018 but each time I transfer an object from ZBrush it still opens a new copy of max with an empty scene along side the already opened scene with the updated ztool.

Ugh whut th frik!!!!!

Imported a box and got into the max import settings (weird you cant access the import settings without importing) and set them to a ZBrush preference. Still the extra open scene problem. I cant find maxstart.max on my machine. Ignoring this file apparently solved some peoples problems.

Goz works fine wit all 3ds max versions  except 3ds max 2018 .

The following GoZ enabled applications are supported for the most recent released version of ZBrush.

Current GoZ enabled applications supported by Pixologic:

  • Autodesk Maya 2015, 2016, 2016.5 and 2017
  • Autodesk 3DSMAX 2015, 2016, 2017
  • Maxon CINEMA4D R15, R16, R17
  • Adobe Photoshop CC
  • Scutlpris Alpha 6

GoZ seems to be looking for mental Ray, which isn't present. I've tried installing a demo version of the plugin without success.

Still the same nasty bug in max 2018.3

In my case goz simply open a new max instance everytime I click on any goz button and sometim it will import only one subtool and the rest of time it export simply nothing... Why so many thngs break at each version in max?

I just had this issue and solved it by:

- in Max, click on the model part you want to work on and GoZ

- in ZB, create an instance of your model and enter Edit Mode

- to keep working, back in Max, do Preferences/Init ZBrush and press "Yes" on warning popup

Repeat the above for the others mesh parts.

Hope this helps !

P.S.: who is to blame ? Autodesk or Pixologic or Microsoft ? Main thing we keep creating !
P.S.II: Pixologix states that:
"The following GoZ enabled applications are supported for the most recent released version of ZBrush.

Current GoZ enabled applications supported by Pixologic:

  • Autodesk Maya 2015, 2016, 2016.5 and 2017

Not sure what you are suggesting here :  Preferences/Init ZBrush and press "Yes"  will reset ZB to 'factory' and loose all customisation. Are you saying we need to do this every time we send a model ?

I have tried to Reset ZB but it stills fires open a new instance of Max !

So far, the only fix that I've come by that's close to GoZ is: Styx Zbrush/Maya/Max Import/Export Tool

https://gumroad.com/l/iDdF

It's a $5 purchase that does the job.

Preferences/Init ZBrushDOES NOT reset ZBrush but the actual Scene !

Are you saying we need to do this every time we send a model ?

I am not guilt but YES, just do it  until Holydays are over and they fix this issue !
