Show window name in minimized mode

Show window name in minimized mode

We often end up with multiple minimized windows. If we like to restore the window it´s pretty much a guessing game, because all the minimized windows look the same.

Would be nice if it would show the 5 first letters of the windows name.

This needs to happen, its basic quality of life improvement. Very annoying having to guess which window is the one you want.

This isn't solved, is it? I go crazy with this.

This is seriously bad UI logic because when using the corresponding shortcut, the window won't be maximized, but closed! No chance left except gambling.

I can't imagine that someone who is really working with max would do this.

Hey guys, maybe you already know this, but I just found this post yesterday. It is working for 3ds max as well:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/maya-forum/no-text-on-minimized-windows-inside-maya-2017-on-windows-1...

Seems to be a general Autodesk / Windows 10 issue no one cares about.

You need to fiddle with registry. Hilarious, isn't it?

It's a workaround ending in this:

3dsMax_issue.JPG

But hell! Removing a tick from your but must feel the same 😉

No more window lottery!

Just in case the other link will not work:

Enter regedit in Windows search bar and open Registry.

I made a backup of my registry before this via export. You never know 😉 This can take a while.

Go to this folder:

You need to add MinWidth - it's not there.

Right click / New / String Value

Name it MinWidth and put value on -3300.

I have no idea why -3300. I tried -2000 - didn't work.

Now, you need to restart your computer.

Done!

No guarantee of course.

But it is working here and it feels great.
