Could it be possible to make an option in the preferences to make (sub) objects only transformable by selecting the Gizmo. When we now select an object by clicking on it in the viewport, but we are still in one of the transformation tools, lets say scale, we immediately scale the object. This new option makes it so you can not transform the (sub) object anymore unless you do this via the gizmo.
I'm coming from Maya and there you can not even use your transformation like this, you always need to select your Gizmo in order to do something. so especially for the old maya users this feature will be extremely helpfull. I know that you can select the ' select object' tool for doing so but that means I always have to press another button to prevent objects from being transformed by accident.
I work with a wacom tablet so it is even easier to accidently do this, and I can tell you it happens a lot.
