Currently, the Align dialog (default hotkey: Alt-A) is modal, i.e. you cannot do anything else in 3ds Max until the dialog is closed.
It would be helpful to at least be able to use viewport navigation while the dialog is up, in order to check the result of the X/Y/Z/min/center/max options by arc-rotating the viewport.
