When you select an object in Max, the modifier stack for that object auto-focuses on the top modifier in the stack. Sometimes this is desirable, but more often it is very frustrating when you're rapidly moving around from one object to another, making incremental edits and refining things because many tools, including the Freeform modeling tools in the graphite ribbon only work when you're on the base Editable Poly level or on an Edit Poly modifier. The issue here is that it's very common to have your modifier stack topped off with things like Symmetry, CreaseSet, OpenSubDiv, etc. So I have to manually reach over to the command panel and select the Edit Poly modifier below those top modifiers every time I select a new object. This really bottlenecks my modeling speed in Max.
I would like to see an option so that when you select objects, the modifier stack auto-focuses on the topmost Edit Poly modifier. There would obviously need to be some thought put into all of the various cases where there may not be an Edit Poly modifier present and how this feature would behave in all of those cases, but I still think it's worth including.
