Maxscript/Python access to a .max file, be able to read object layers, materials

It's very frustrating as a TD not to be able to query what is in a .max file from outside it other than a list of objects and materials.

It's essential for us to be able to read the list of layers and which objects are on each layer, so we can build our own Merge by Layer utility and make other useful utilities.

Considering the closed nature of 3dsMax file format, any way of accessing data from outside of 3dsMax file from max file is very beneficial.

This kinds of feature is the feature which makes a big/medium studio to updrade.

Whilst you have to write the data to the metadata stream yourself there is now ways to do this in Max 2019!

@attilaszabo - I think we need a blog post about it from Autodesk to help sell it.

I've written a blog post with a couple of demo Python scripts to illustrate this feature:
