This is a constant blocker to us doing more and more creative work.   The explicit normals from imported CAD data mean the mesh has to be an Editable Mesh in max, if you convert it to an Editable_Poly it will lose all its smoothing groups.... New menu tech is great, faster, stable and much better than before, I love it, but I'd also would like to see it go further.   Once a menu is detached and become a floating menu I'd like to be able to turn it into a toolbar, drag it items up and down, or make the text go and see only its icons, this menus should be dockable, and we should be able to add/remove items easily, drag items from one floating menu into another or into a toolbar.   This is the next step in Max customizing options.   Show More

I am wishing for the bake progress window to not stay on top and keep you from working by staying in focus. This is just unnecessary. If I want to keep working, let the window just get into the background and whenever I bake, it gets focus again. Currently, it happens too often that I try to click somewhere but I have to close that window first with a painful reminder of a blinking progress bar window. The tick box can stay as there are users that do not want to see this at all, but if I want to have it open, why not at least make it non-workflow disrupting 🙂  Show More

TL:DR - Please provide an option to disable compress on save for Autoback but keep it on for manual save.   When working with large files it's better to compress on save for file size reduction.... eg: 600mb file down to 100mb is great.   However, this makes it impossible to work with Autoback turned on as it will take a huge magnitude of extra time. Autoback is great to have but impractical to use with compress as it disrupts your work heavily. Being able to disable compress on save for Autoback would be fantastic as you can leave it on and not be interrupted in your workflow.    As a simple test.... the same scene: Compress on save turned OFF - 750mb @ 21 Seconds Compress on save turned ON - 188mb @ 116 Seconds   Now that is a huge difference, in both file space and time required. That's a 450% increase in time required.   I think it's totally fine to wait for it compress when I'm happy to do so... but obviously, this doesn't work with autoback.   There's plenty of space for a small checkbox under Auto Backup in the preference dialogue. If left unchecked by default that would work for the majority of users.... power users can easily enable it they want.   Show More
