Option to disable compress on save for Autoback

Option to disable compress on save for Autoback

TL:DR - Please provide an option to disable compress on save for Autoback but keep it on for manual save.

When working with large files it's better to compress on save for file size reduction.... eg: 600mb file down to 100mb is great.

However, this makes it impossible to work with Autoback turned on as it will take a huge magnitude of extra time.

Autoback is great to have but impractical to use with compress as it disrupts your work heavily.

Being able to disable compress on save for Autoback would be fantastic as you can leave it on and not be interrupted in your workflow.

As a simple test.... the same scene:

Compress on save turned OFF - 750mb @ 21 Seconds

Compress on save turned ON - 188mb @ 116 Seconds

Now that is a huge difference, in both file space and time required. That's a 450% increase in time required.

I think it's totally fine to wait for it compress when I'm happy to do so... but obviously, this doesn't work with autoback.

There's plenty of space for a small checkbox under Auto Backup in the preference dialogue. If left unchecked by default that would work for the majority of users.... power users can easily enable it they want.

@Jixal I'd also like to see this functionality, and wrote a little pair of Macroscripts for it. These turn compression on, then do the normal Save or Save As... commands, then turn compression off. That way, Autosaves will be done quickly without compression. I have these set to Ctrl-S and Ctrl-Shift-S, so they also work with shortcuts. Hopefully this helps. You'll need to be in Max 2019.1 or newer for these to work. ---- macroScript SaveCompressed category:"File" internalCategory:"File" buttonText:"Save Compressed" toolTip:"Save File Compressed" ( maxops.setCompressSceneFileOnSave(true); max file save maxops.setCompressSceneFileOnSave(false); ) macroScript SaveAsCompressed category:"File" internalCategory:"File" buttonText:"Save Compressed As..." toolTip:"Save File Compressed As" ( maxops.setCompressSceneFileOnSave(true); max file saveAs maxops.setCompressSceneFileOnSave(false); )

@Jixal You'll have to re-add the formatting in there if you want it to be clean - the forum removed all the nice spacing and indentation, and the Preview button is broken, so I have no way to figure out how to fix it. The script should still work, though. Autodesk - your forums are weird.

@Jixal Sorry for spamming, I just checked and it DOESN'T work if just copied over from the forum. I needed to add some semicolons to keep it from erroring without the line breaks. Anyway, here's a link to download in case you want it... https://www.dropbox.com/s/i7dtuwok3t1ow97/saveCompressed.ms?dl=0
