There has been an inconsistancy with the quickslice tool since it was introduced:   1) It seems to initially 'snap' to horizontal when you use it, but cutting vertically is incredibly difficult, the sensitivity to get it to go in one direction just doesn't work, 2) using snap doesn't work as it should. If you want to snap to start the quickslice on a vertex, you're left to choose a completely unguided direction, 3) it doesn't seem to know when you have finished using quickslice - sometimes the quickslice stays there, and sometimes it disappears. Sometimes it stays there visibly, but it isn't actually there, and disappears when you rotate the camera.     It feels like it was an idea, implemented, but abandoned 50% of the way through, but put in anyway.   In my opinion, SHIFT should snap to a either UP or across by moving the mouse in that direction The axis constraints should also be able to contrain to a direction, until SHIFT is released.   I use quickslice all the time and it is so useful, but it's so limited in it's current form.     詳細を表示

A quality-of-life addition to Slate would be if the last connector of Multi/Sub materials means increasing the number of sub-materials (and also connects the material). This means fast work constructing Multi/Sub materials when you don't know from the start how many sub-material slots you need. Being able to connect at the bottom to extend the number of sub-material simply means less disruptive material workflow.      詳細を表示

Sometimes when you are working with complex models using symmetry modifier, its a bit hard to see which side of the model is the real one when dealing with more than 1 axis. Maybe a button/ check mark in the symmetry modifier so that people can choose to use it or not; that can help to visualize the original piece a bit better. could be handy for beginners. in the example picture, the original piece is slightly darker.   詳細を表示

We still need fire and smoke solution !!!  It may not be the most advanced solution, but it must be EASY to use and FAST. This should be the main advantage for 3ds Max. Even visualizers sometimes need these things. - The solution must be able to work in conjunction with the particle system. - The result should be recorded in vdb format.   詳細を表示

It is good that we in 2024 can finally control the Viewport Clipping values parametrically via MAXScript. Handling Viewport Clipping in previous versions have been one of the biggest annoyances inside 3ds max.   However, not all users know that this is possible to change with actual values, or where to find scripts that provide an interface.  I suggest that parametric control for the near and far Clipping Planes should be added to the Active Viewport Settings so that any user can find and control this in the most logical place to look without the need for external solutions.   And now that we can control this with using actual numbers we do not need to rely on that slider gizmo thing on the view of the viewport, so please let the user toggle whether this gizmo should be visible in the viewport while Viewport Clipping is enabled. And please expose this to MAXScript so it can be toggled by custom tools. It is often the case that when you need to make screenshots of the viewport you need to have Viewport Clipping enabled to minimize z-fighting, and the gizmo will always be there as a distraction. Hi there,    I would like to see Motion Design Tools similar to C4D MoGraph or at least an equivalent to Maya's MASH in 3DsMax.   The idea is to create a modernized, native end to end solution with nested tools and modifiers that are easily accessible to new users. Ideally that toolbar will have effectors that will let you modify animation keys of multiple objects simultaneously and apply delay, stepping, dynamics, gravity and other effects fast and easy. These could also interact with particle emitters and tyFlow or even Phoenix FD sims so that advanced users can create awesome visuals in 3Ds MAX.     Hope others share my view, thanks  詳細を表示

The Bridge operation in Editable Poly is quite basic, but it would be very helpful if this operation can be used to make more than just straight connections.   It is often the case that I want to Bridge two selected surfaces but I do not wish to to have a linear connection. This non-linear path can be controlled by a spline object, like in the mockup below:     The Extrude Along Spline operation will give you sort of a similar result, but the end does not connect or conform to the end surface, which requires a lot of manual work to make look right. To have this spline guide directly in Bridge would lead to much quicker and more accurate results.   Since the curvature of a path is used there can be an Adaptive Mode that inserts segments based on the curvature of the spline, for optimization.   I also have a suggestion for a new type of Bias when creating the Bridge. The current Bias setting only controls where the center of the tapering sits relative to the bridge. But i would like to see another Bias that controls the general segment distribution that can "pinch" segment distribution closer or away from the center. The benefit of this is that it is often the case that you need more segments near the connections of your bridge, and by pushing segments closer to these connections provides better segment distribution for things like relaxing the borders of the Bridge. Mockups below:     An improvement that could be implemented, preferably alongside the ability to use spline paths, would be automatic curvature of the bridge based on the face normals and distance of the extruded surfaces. Substitute modifier can hold mesh data in itself. It also can automatically disable thew below stack without changing any enable/disable modifier option by user.   All we need is a button to snapshot the incoming stack result(either mesh/poly) of Substitute modifier and use as Substitute mesh.   詳細を表示

The idea of introducing Fluids in 3ds Max is marked as implemented, but this is a mistake. What is now available is only a part of the functionality requested by people. - Max Fluids has bugs that have been present from the very beginning and still have not been fixed. - Exporting the calculation results is difficult, especially for foam and splashes. - Setting up the liquid is complicated by the lack of the simplest actions. For example, turn on/off the source. - A mixture of several liquids with different parameters is a shamanic dance. And the result can only be seen on the render. How can this be transferred between different renderers or programs? - The big problem now is to show the wetness of the surface. I would like an automated process. - We need an algorithm to optimize the exported results. So that the size of the transmitted data can be adjusted. 詳細を表示

Just like there is a modifier that dynamically welds vertices on geometry objects there should be a modifier that welds spline knots the same way. This will allow for more procedural non-destructive workflows when creating complex spline shapes, for example when using the Array modifier on a spline and want to keep each clone connected. Fillets with variable width between boolean operant intersections. The idea would be for the Boolean modifier to cut strips of variable width between the intersections of Boolean objects. Those gaps can be filled with a smooth bridging algorithm that creates topology strips to fill those gaps. This would be a game-changing feature for modeling as it would allow solid-modeling-like variable-width fillets. No other poly modeling software except Modo offers this feature.   The main problem with using the Retopology modifier to create somewhat smoothed intersections is that those intersection fillets can't be large and of variable width like Modo Meshfusion. The Chamfer modifier can't create chamfers between complex intersecting curved surfaces. There used to be a 'Hardmesh' plugin for 3dsmax, but it is no longer updated for 3dsmax since 2020 and is not well integrated with the new boolean workflow. There is also the 'Smoothboolean' plugin, but it only works statically on Proboolean objects and not inside the modifier stack.   Just like Meshfusion, it does not have to constantly 'live' update when moving or changing boolean operants. That would be slow and performance-heavy. The solution would be that during changing of the boolean operants scale/move/rotate etc the base booleans operations are displayed (without the fillets) and as soon as the user stops editing, the fillets can be re-generated for those changed objects (Either with manual or automatic updating options). Also, there could be some sort of cashing of the resulting geometry so loading would be faster.     詳細を表示

An often overseen feature of the UVW Unwrap Editor is the ability to scale from a specific point using the Set Pivot options, example:     However, there are only five options to choose from - center and the four corners. Switching to UV Vertex sub-level will not overlap the Pivot, but any switching of the sub-level instantly resets the Pivot position, which forces you to work in Vertex if you even feel like manual placement. But the risk of loosing whatever manual placement is extremely high. Therefore I suggest the following: • Expose all 9 Pivot snap options directly in the UVW Unwrap Editor interface. • Provide an option to stop the pivot from resetting, meaning the Pivot position will stay the same between selection changes. • Provide and interface to set Pivot position by coordinate values for precise placement.   There also seems to be some bugs with the current system that needs to be addressed: • When undoing it seems the Pivot does not update it's position correctly, making the Pivot drift away each time you undo: • When changing Pivot and using the Scale spinners directly it doesn't respect the new Pivot position until you click inside the UV layout space, which is annoying.     詳細を表示

I'm aware of the little solid triangle indicator for the material applied to an object. Also, there is search function. but, i rarely get it to work. its bad especially when there are duplicate names for maps and materials and it is case sensitive and fails even if there is a accidental space before or after the name or if the name has multiple words. it would be great if the search function worked even if a part of Material/map name has the keyword.   so, It would be great to have a visual indicator for the Material tree when the object is selected in the viewport. especially when there are hundreds of materials.. maybe a highlighter or a translucent bounding box when we select the object. so that we can straightaway pan/scroll to the concerned material 詳細を表示
