There are already idea threads about glTF import/export, but since those threads are very old at this point (created back in 2018), and glTF has been halfway implemented (only export), I'd like to start a new idea thread that focuses on the import part and gather votes for that.
The last official status can can be read from the old ideas thread is the following (12-02-2024) :
"At this time, we are not planning on any glTF updates in the near-term as our primary focus is around OpenUSD. There may come a time where this changes, but updates to glTF are not currently on our near-term roadmap for 3ds Max."
It has now been a while, OpenUSD has left the ground, but there is still no way to import glTF files to max, even with plugins. I know several big companies that relies heavily on glTF as a format, but are forced to resort to Blender when such files need to be imported for adjustment. This is just another thing that makes Blender seem like a more attractive alternative than 3ds max. In my experience the ability to import glTF files is actually a pretty big deal.
I understand that development is for the most part based on priority, but I believe it's time for Autodesk to prioritize import support for glTF and allocate resources to make this happen.
Support for exporting glTF was introduced in 3ds max 2023, which was released in March 30, 2022.
It's now been tree years. One year since the last official statement on this. It's time to start prioritizing import support.
