In the 10+ years I have been using 3ds max, whenever gradient ramps or noise is animated and displayed in the viewport it cannot be played in realtime. The best frame rate I can get is 16 fps, and that is when there is only 1 object in the scene with animated noise. On a complex scene its unusable. I must stop showing the material in the viewport, and ALSO close the material editor so it doesn’t animate their either. Because if you have the material editor open and there are multiple materials animating, it cannot take it and is so slow. Of course, I could tell each material not to animate, but should that really be something to do?
The gradient ramp has its own set of issues, it also has playback issues, but according to the Tyflow forum, it constantly sends out reset notifications even when nothing has changed, causing major issues with simulations and playback.
I hate to be that guy comparing 3ds to Blender, but when you see realtime viewport playback at 50fps and everything looking accurate in the viewport, it wonder why these things in 3ds still exist.
Is there something that can be done about this? I use these features all the time, and all the time I face these problems but have learnt to live them, but they are BIG problems. And this goes back many years, over dozens of PCs in multiple offices.
Thank you.
