many features in 3DS Max has more than one way to be accessed. and this is one of them. there are four ways to access the same viewport preferences dialogue. one from the main menu is understandable. but 3 from the viewport itself!?
also, i think you need to condense all the stuff from the [+][View type][Nitrous preferance][shading] menu in the viewport.
