Why does the Resource Collector always miss files?

Clearly in my asset tracking there are numerous files to be collected. 8 unique.

But the Resource Collector has only collected 3 of 8 not including the max file

Is there a better system than this? Why does it miss files all the time? Over my decade long use of 3ds I have alway done it manually because the resource collector is so poor at it's job. Or am i doing somthing wrong?

It's an old tool, it's not you.  Happens to me too.  Haven't tried it in years but I recall it not seeing HDRI files too back when I tried to use it over a decade ago.  (Might work now, no idea.)

It's important to remember that 3dsmax is like an OS, so sometimes you have to make or find 3rd party solutions.  In your case, you can check out some of the resource collecting scripts on Scriptspot to a find better one.  MB resource collector and Collect Asset come to mind.  Scriptspots search engine is as old and broken as can be, so you often need to search google things on scriptspot.

A lot of old tools get left in 3dsmax for older scene compatibility (and a barrage of complaints if removed), but some are for all intents and purposes discontinued and this is probably one of them.  Possibly File->Archive is the updated flavor, I haven't tried it before tbh.  (Once you move the files the plugin Relink Bitmaps might be useful for you.)

I had used 3rd party scripts in the past for large projects, but I don't like to think of 3ds as OS, I get you need plugins for many things, I have them all, but I also like to think there is an actual team working on and updating all of 3ds's broken and outdated features to some degree, it's not like it's getting huge updates elsewhere like other 3d packages are. It seems strange to me that this can be a forgotten feature, it cannot take much updating, surley

Well, it was sold and designed as hub for plugins back in the day iirc.  Cam with a huge binder full of plugin advertisements.  Character studio came from that binder I believe.

I agree it doesn't seem hard to fix but that's not really my area or territory.   But the 3rd party scripts always did the trick for me.
