Vray Rendering Selected Object Only

HI everyone,

Is there a way to render ONLY a selected object in Max using vray?

I have being trying to find a solution but it seems that only using mentalray in Max it is posible to render the selected object.

I have seen people suggesting to go all other objects properties in the scene and make then non render-able for example, although perhaps there are other less complicated solutions due to the huge amount of objects in the scene.

Wonder if I should make this question in Chaos group instead although I believe this issue is more likely to be resolved in Max than in Vray.

Regards, Eric

This is an older thread but I think still valid.

Also, you could just 'isolate' the object, but, it will zoom in and center it when you do that.

Personally, I've never used Vray, but don't you have the Render Selected only option in the renderer itself (See attachment -1).

Adding to the Isolating object to render by the above member, You can create a camera just before isolation, and adjust it's FOV to your hearts desire. Or, The simplest way is to Use perspective view on two viewports and adjust your viewport to the rendering angle on both viewports. Then, Isolate only on one of the perspective viewport so that the other viewport is unaffected by the isolation. You can render the unaffected viewport without having to adjust the rendering angle all over again. (See attachment -2)

Thanks, I had seen the other thread before posting mine, tried the wrapper solution but the result is not as good one.

Thanks,

Isolating renders only the object but no shadows, reflections, lights, atmospheric, etc.

Vray does not render properly with perpective views on viewports, best results are with other cameras but default.

As said the "render selected" option in Max works only when using mentalray together several other adjustments (mentioned in Bobs post link) but no other rendering software......I wonder why it is there if it does not work!!.

The way I did it was going through each single other object properties in the scene and make then "not visible in camera", yup it takes huge amount of time. No groups and selecting by layer did help.

'Scene States' might also be a good solution for you. Once you have it set up it's pretty easy to turn things on and off.

Ok, I have never tried scene states tho it may be wort to try.

Indeed we got another render with the same situation of rendering only 1 object, save it as png and then paste it after in photoshop. As we are recording people using green screen we need to add the several objects after the video has been edited and the place the png files over it.

You could also go to 'Render Elements' and set up an 'Object ID' pass and render the scene and save it as a .png. Then drop the Object ID mask on it in Photoshop to mask it out. That's probably the easiest thing to do. There are also other variations of this technique too. This is just one way to do it using Render Elements.

Thanks Rob :-).

Did try several of your suggestions but I never got it to work...or simply did not use enough time trying, apologies.

I suppose it is a matter of rendering with Vray and not directly from Max. It all depends on the quality achieved with an the scene designed to be rendered specifically with Vray.

Well, to make it short, I did succeed  ¨:-) ---->>> searching & trying in the object Vray properties and not in the object max properties, I found that I can matte all other objects and set the alpha contribution to 0.00 when the object I want to render I simply do not matte and set the alpha contribution to 1.0 then I save as PNG and manage the PNG file with Photoshop.

Here is how the Vray object properties looks like

Thank you all for your suggestions & tips. I hope this solved issue helps other Max-Vray users like me to render single objects 😉

Yep, that's as viable of a solution as any other. What I've always enjoyed about 3d is that there is frequently no "single" way to do things. There are often multiple workflows that achieve the same end result. What's great about exploring them is that you learn so much about Max along the way so the next time you are faced with an unknown hurdle, you might just solve it a lot more quickly.

Agree Rob, there are normally ways to get around in Max and get what you need, all is a matter of trying & trying until you get it although you need the knowledge and most of it.....time & patience to find the solution.

Max should fix the feature "Render Selected" as offered. Not possible?, it should simply be removed it from the Render Setup and perhaps should made a tutorial of "how to render a single object".

Hi Everyone

I'm having trouble with selective rendering for a video output. The video is always left with a blur due to the movement of the the frames as if the frame being rendered is rendering the previous frame(s) in the background as well.

I have attached a video to help explain the problem. If anyone can help that would be great.

Many thanks

Dylan

Wow, that's a strange one. Can you upload the file? I'd like to look at it.
