Volume Select Modifier with vertex color

i wanted to know the use of this radio button of vertex color in volume select modifier, any help is highly appreciated.

Vertex color (channel) is mapping channel much like other map channels

and other map channels are vertex color channels  much like... you know...

You can paint vertices by changing mapping coordinators and vice versa...

But most likely you would use that with Vertex Color Map (map channel 0)  as selection source.
