2023.1 Unexpected Results

I'll keep it short.

  • Shift dragging a spline segment is a welcome addition, but Editable Spline -> Segment Sub-Object -> Geometry Rollout -> Connect Copy no longer works. I've toggled and tested. On or Off has no effect anymore with Shift+Drag or Ctrl+Shift+Drag. Increase the Threshold value, and max adds all kinds of weird segments.
  • Backface Culling - An Editable Poly with backface cull = off. Switch to Edge/Border/Poly/Element Sub-Object mode. Backface edges disappear unless selected. Vertices display in vertex mode, but no edges shown. I should see edges at all times. Am I missing a toggle somewhere?

I too am having visual problems with edges and vertices. I can't see flat planes in any view other than perspective and top. Backface culling shows completely invisible on the backface, and the plane flickers in left view. I took a gif of this behaviour if it helps anyone: Plane / backface cull visual glitch

Edit: I've since discovered that if you change the graphics mode to Dx3D9, the glitch disappears. But comes right back with Dx3D11.

The relax button for Unfold3D is completely broken too in the UV Editor and in the tools panel. Clicking it does nothing in both.

I'm going to roll back, it's unusable in this state.

I verified the changing of the graphics mode. Nitrous Direct3D 9 does not exhibit the behavior originally described. I'm currently running on NVIDIA Quadro RTX 5000 driver 516.25 on Windows 10.

Hi @chris.tranchina and @warehousefifteendesigns ,

Thanks for your notes here. I'm forwarding this thread link to some of our Max devs/QAs and we'll see what they say about these issues. If they're reproducible, then they'll be logged as defects and slated for fixing.

To be clear, the Editable Spline behavior does continue to act not as expected regardless of the chosen graphics mode.

I've changed the Viewport Background color a different shade of gray and the backface wires have reappeared.

Changing Gamma in Preferences does not help. I could not find the custom color settings for "selected object backface wire" which I would prefer to edit vs the viewport's background color.

The backface wire color changes to a different shade of gray when switching from an object's top-level to sub-object like vertex or edge. This explains why they appear to "disappear".
