I can't get the material to load for the tutorials.  I've followed the instructions to extract to the project tutorial file with no success.  I've deleted the tutorial files and tried again and still get the message that files are missing.  Maybe there is a step I'm missing.  Is there a step by step walkthrough to see if I'm doing it correctly.

That's because you didn't follow the tutorial(s) closely enough. You MUST set your Project Folder appropriately or the scenes will not work as expected.

Tutorials > Getting Started > Animated Battle Scene > Preparation for this tutorial.

I've extracted the files into the *autodesk 3ds max* *2016 tutorials *file that
is located in the default location of the project folder. Does the project
folder need to be set somewhere other than the default location for it to
work properly? Does it matter that it's a student version? Do I set the
current project to the* autodesk 3ds max* *2016 tutorials *file before or
after I open the first tutorial? Is there a step by step walk through to
see if I'm understanding the directions correctly?

thanks

Extract the files - where you put them is up to you, but make sure you have proper permissions. For example you could extract them to "c:\Users\[your user name]\My Documents\3ds Max 2016 Tutorials Scene Files". That is the folder you would then need to select when you go to Customise > Configure User Paths and change the Project Folder setting.

No, it does not matter that you have a Student License - the s/ware is the same regardless of the type of license.

The confusion was where the the instructions say to set the project file.

Your instructions were much clearer. Once I set the project file to 3ds Max 2016 Tutorials Scene Files, instead of Autodesk 3ds Max 2016 tutorials, problem solved.

  Works now Thanks!

I've included a screen shot and highlighted the step that gave me trouble.

Glad you got it sorted. It can be a bit confusing until you're used to the way they're zipped up and how the Project Folder needs to be configured.
