still no news about 3ds Max 2017?

As you can read in my note at beginning of last year "Still no news about 3dsMax 2016" there are some important conclusions. One of them is possitive: Autodesk came with a new 3ds Max 2016 with important improvements...yes. Comparing to their previous releases is was impressionant. Comparing to Maya..comparing to 'free' Blender'? ..hmm. For 'psysics' sims, fluids, smoke etc..there was nothing included. So Max users had to wait for another year. Hopefully Autodesk decides to include Naiad in Max as they did in Maya and perhaps with some advancements. That's what I should do..the one year better for Maya the other year better for Max, so that all potential customers and existing users stay in the 'Autodesk' camp. If they don't...I garantee, not max will loose, not Maya will winn, but' s Autodesk who will loose the marketplace. As with most of Marketleaders they get arrogant as some points. They decides to kill some competences of people (Combustion, Edit, Max, Toxik, Composite e.a.) buy competitors and promote it as new products. Not saying it's wrong to buy in new technology to accelerate plug ins of an existing product. As long as your efforts in training are garanteed for a lifetime. In the nineties Discreet and even Autodesk where beloved companies. Not any more now. O contrary...So I can understand the users are aware now and begging for 'Bitfrost' or even better in Max2017, I can understand they never will move to Maya, I can understand If necesary the will rather move to competitors paid or free..Max need to be revamped asap including everything possible..kratatoa, thinkbox, bitfrost and other good FX tools. If not..goodbye Autodesk.

Like I said over a week ago, since there was no "officially announced" trial version, and the fact that when you try to access the help menu in 3ds max, it directs you to a "beta.autodesk.com" link, someone somewhere broke confidentiality and leaked beta data that was not meant to be shared with others...

I hope that Autodesk doesn't turn into Willy Wonka's chocolate factory, keep all of the debugging solely for their debugging team, and not allow any information into the community about any upcoming features because of one village idiot, because that would suck. But hey, if it happens, blame the village idiot, not those who abided by the rules...

Why would they?

As far as I understand it, Max was from the trial suite of Autocad etc. Rather than people on the beta.

None of the screenshots say beta, or a development name like previous betas.

Even if it was, I can't imagine them foregoing *free* testers for something being leaked this close to release.

It's certainly been leakier in the past with beta version screenshots appearing a lot earlier than this one.

That may be true about more leaks in the past, but that doesn't make it any more right to ignore specific instructions given by Autodesk themselves...

Don't get me wrong, I myself, am waiting for 2017's official release, but if the only versions available right now are only meant for beta testers, as they are developmental builds, and no one else but those people, isn't that going against what they'd prefer to see happen? (This may not sound much like a big deal, but they're a multi-million, even multi-billion industry, I'm sure they'd like some of their products to remain secret, that way they can capitalize and make the most money...)

I'm not talking about the rights or wrongs. I just don't think this is anything to be concerned about.

That said, I don't really care what Autodesk would prefer.

I'd prefer they hadn't killed Softimage, killed the grace period for subs renewals, or gone back on this within a year.

Seems we're both out of luck.

But I thought you couldn't wait until 3ds Max had UI changes? 2017 does and it doesn't sound like you're happy?

Thanks for your response, but I wasn't really talking to you, I was asking Cyborg why he felt the way he did, in spite of his attitude to 3ds Max earlier in the thread...

How long have you been a VFX Artist? Most I know and have known, myself included, for the last 15 or so years only upgrade every 2-3 versions anyway regardless of feature set, unless it fixes something critically broken, even then it is baby steps.

Most Max VFX is based on third party plugins, why would this release be any different or "more special" than any other?

You seem to be just another smack talker with no real basis for your comments other than just following the herd. Post some meat about your issues and maybe people won't consider you just another troll.

The simple answer to you is "bye bye". If you are using a program you arent happy with and you know of one you would be happy with, save yourself some stress and SWITCH!

I'm getting sick and tired of people coming in here and whining about things that other programs have that MAX doesnt. This is a free market you live in.(for the most part) Its not a monopoly. There is more than a single option to do your work. Find the one that closely matches what you need. OR....but some plug ins and dont look back.

If you wait year after year for a new particle system that rivals thinking particals or some other piece of software you are going to be dissapointed and angry EVERY YEAR. Go into each year ASSUMING MAX will not get any better. If you are using it now, its because you are able to do what you need to do with it. The features they add each year is like frosting on the cake. Yes, its an old cake, but your still eating it. If it starts rotting in your mouth....SWITCH.

OK, im done.

It is better to see you come back with something.

10 years? then you would know that camera matching and/or tracking has always been weak in Max. It is also weak in Maya, it is why people use SynthEyes (a plugin). AND you would also know that you would get most, if not all of your tracks, from PFtrack or some other dedicated tracking package or plugin. You will never get as good of tracks in native max or maya that you would from a dedicated tracker or matchmover. It is why they soley exist.

Max has some of the best VFX tools, they just happen to be 3rd party plugins, like I said. If Mayas internal tools are so good then why is everyone porting Max plugins to Maya?

I have heard your arguments for years, you can keep waiting for years, and not making money or working on cool projects, or you can buy the tools you need now and use them. Simple as that, complaining just makes you look like a whiner.

Serioulsy, Houdini threats are empty, hell I have made them myself out of frustration, I got no-where with them.

You have two options: help make Max better or leave, period.

It is not for the consumers to make an expensive software application better. Autodesk needs to take some initiative.

People complain about 3ds max and compare it to other 3d applications such as Blender because they hope that someone at Autodesk will wake up and realise how behind the times 3ds max is. FREE software is better!

3ds max was a cash-cow they milked-dry and drove into the ground. It might be beyond saving with the current CEO and CTO.

They need developers that can program AND use the software. Such people are expensive and Autodesk has a habbit of firing expensive employees and 3ds max has suffered because of it.

I also use blender on occasion and lets be honest, for modelling and it's genral workflow when modelling 3dsmax is waay ahead of blender.

For othe stuff, blender can compare and even be ahead of 3dsmax but modelling isn't one of them in my opinion.
