Script controller problem 2018

Hi,

 

well it´s working maybe once or twice.

But the crash returns after some time...so it´s not solved.

 

I´m really angry about all the problems coming with each new version.

Paying so much money and getting a maximun unstable software is not how it should be.

 

Right now I cannot use my standart plugins/scripts like Rebusfarm, Sigertools, Relinks bitmaps...etc.

If I have to renew the ENU folder every 2-3 days and get my layout back..its just not working.

 

Sorry, but this ruins my day.

Hello @Anonymous,

 

I have moved your post to a new thread so that I can help you with this issue. I have also edited the title slightly for more efficient searching. Thanks for your understanding.

 

Let's handle this in this new thread, you issue and the issue in the thread you posted in are likely not the same.  If a 3rd party script is malfunctioning, that isn't something Autodesk can help with, you'd need to contact the maker of the script.  Do you have Max crashes without the script?

 

I checked your CER log and I see 1 entry for Max here, with the crashing module being your NVIDIA drivers.  What is your current driver version?  Did you do a clean install when you installed the last set of drivers? 

 

What scripts do you have in your scripts/startup folder?  Lastly, have you tried uninstalling those plugins and testing Max stability that way?  Please provide any details you think are relevant.  Thank you.  (Max version and update number, OS, etc.)

Hi Alfred,

 

thanks for getting back to this so fast.

I have to finish some tight deadlines before I can further investigate what might cause 

the constant crashing on startup an will get back to you when there is time.

 

Nvidia drivers are up to date and it´s a new install.

(There has been some stuttering in top view, yes).

 

As for the plugins / scripts, I have to go through everything single and test it.

I will try to sort things out this way and post it here.

 

Maybe it´s like you mentioned and one script is causing the crashes.

Unfortunately I cannot tell wich one it might be.

I need time to test this.

Hi Alfred,

 

so I had to try some solutions concerning the external script / plugins to get MAX

running, because it wasn´t starting at all.

 

I found out, that Itoo´s Railclone lite caused many weired problems.

(Even when "using" hide selected or unhide all...)

 

I had to dig into every single hidden folder / install folder to find every last file from Railclone.

I´m not sure if this was all, or if another tool is causing problems.

 

So far it seems to be solved, but I will come back here,

after all plugins are installed back.

..after further testing I found out that model+model bookmanager also caused crashing (script controller).

I asked the support and they said, the actual version supports max 2018.

 

Every time I installed m+m BM max could not start anymore until I reset the ENU folder.

 

Well, I dont know what´s causing this.

I think I have to reinstall my OS to get things clear again,

though its 4 weeks new WIN10 PRO and maybe wait for version 2.0 of the BM.

Hello @Anonymous,

 

Thank you for the descriptive update posts, I appreciate it.  iToo is very good at technical support and I've seen two cases where a crash in RailClone was due to an issue in another plugin or within Max.  Usually if they discover something like that they are descriptive about what it is.  If you file a support ticket with them and they come back with information I should log, please don't hesitate to forward it to Alfred.DeFlaminis@autodesk.com.  It may be that it's a conflict between RC and the other plugin you mentioned combined with a Windows update and Max... hard to say.  (Sometimes it's as simple as a variable or ID # that is the same between them.)  

 

In the meanwhile I have downloaded both plugins and will try to run a test to see if I can repro.  Any tips for me?

 

Before you try to reinstall Windows, try making a new user.  User profiles get corrupted on the regular and sometimes a new user profile can fix everything right up.  Will you please try that for me?

Just wanted to post an update.  I've installed both of those plugins and I'm not getting the script controller error.  It may be that one or both of those are conflicting with another script you might have, or possibly they've left information in the user settings that must be flushed out.  Can you please try to reset your user settings for me?  Thanks!

Hej Alfred,

 

well..I think the mistake is on my side guys.

I uninstalled max..reinstalled it with a new ENU folder.

 

I installed all my standart plugins back, put all the scripts back in.

Step by step and always opening and closing max in between.

 

What is leftover as last is the "Relink bitmaps" script.

I went to the homepage and there it says the script is testet with max9-2017.

I must have been to much in a hurry to not have seen this.

 

 

I wrote a mail to Colin, asking if 2018 isnt supported at all and have to wait for his reply.

(Will post answer here).

 

Well at least I guess thats the reason why only "my" max was crashing.

 

I will get back here shortly

Good find @Anonymous, excellent troubleshooting.  I really appreciate the update.  That relink bitmaps script is fantastic, I used it all the time in production.  Possibly the 2018 version just isn't ready yet.  Thanks again for the info and if you find that resolves your issue please feel free to mark your post as a Solution so the next person with this issue can benefit from the knowledge there.  Thanks very much!

Hej Alfred,

 

I cant yet confrim that it was related to relink bitmaps.

I have to wait for the answer from colin. He will test it as fast as possible.

 

While opening max today I got another script controller crash.

Unfortunately I could only make a screenshot,

as max has allready stopped functioning and I couldnt hit the "save" button.

 

Maybe this tells you or one of the devs more than I know?

 

It´s strange because it worked fine the day before.

Hej Alfred,

 

another try 🙂

As you mentioned in the external thread he should try to uninstall VRAY.

 

The error window showed something about lic.server.

I do have a Vray trial installed to use the corona material converter for some models.

(Trial is enough for the converter).

 

As the trial expired some days ago, I think now the license server from vray was...not happy?

I uninstalled the lic server with the dedicated uninstall exe from vray lic server.

 

I erased my ENU folder...put every single bit of plugin and script back in (toolbar...etc.).

 

For now max starts as it should.

I will have to wait and see, before highlighting this as solution.

 

Oh man, I just want to work 🙂

Thank you for the update @Anonymous.  That thread you linked to was a very specific problem and also very rare.  I didn't get the same vibe from yours but let's be sure.  Can you please open the listener and run this line below for me?  (If you have questions about how to do that after reading that link please let me know.)

It should return "False".  If it returns "true" please let me know and I will escalate your case to the next level of support.

Hello all,

 

For those reading this thead with similar symptoms, please reference the articles in this post for more information about this issue.  These problems are caused by 3rd party Maxscript files and the resolution can be found in that thread.  For the issue reported here, it appears to be the ALC Maxscript.  Thank you very much.
