Remove bitmap from scene material

Hi I have a Model with a lot of poly and there are applied some skin bone in some of theme and there is a lot of references of Bitmap in the scene Materials but all without any connection with my poly.

I select all my poly and remove any material with utility in the command panel more UVW Remove.

even after this there are still reference there even after saving and reopening.

I need to be sure that I can remove them from the scene.
Any suggestion?

When selecting the bitmap in scene Materials and hit [Shift] + "T", I just got asset tracking windows open no delete bitmap.
Is it a shortcut not saved in the hotkey editor?

As @darawork  is pointing out, Asset Tracking menu can help. The right-click menu of Asset Tracking has a menu to Remove Missing Assets.

Hi,

Sorry, I should have been more clear. Yup, as Sean says, it's in the menu of the Asset Tracking window; Paths-> Remove Missing Assets

I find that if the material isn't in the scene anymore, and has been deleted from the Slate Material Editor or Compact Material Editor, Environment slot, or Direct Visibility Override slots (or anywhere else)... it can be removed as above. Sometimes it won't show it as removed, even when refreshed... but after an application restart it usually goes away.

Hi,

Is it in the Material editor still, Or used in any other location that you know of in the scene?
Also, sometimes by using 'Relink Missing Bitmaps' you can see if the bitmap is missing from the scene, but still listed.
In this case you can forcibly remove the path to it by pressing "Delete All Missing Bitmaps":

There was another user recently who had a problem when he merged in things from another scene that it would break his paths and replace the bitmap file with this exact message.  (X Image File.)

Are there any images listed in the asset tracker?  Setting the path manually in the asset tracker may fix it.  If the tracker shows no files in it, then I'm not sure what you would do other than manually remove them.

Hi thank's for the help file in the asset tracker are fine and correlated with the proper file in the directory.
Unfortunately there are this ghost bitmap without any apply in the scene in no mesh, no UW check perview.
Max don't want to let them go.
I think is really a deprecated way to keep material and organization.
wish something change.
Thank you

I was afraid of that.  This is something I've seen maybe 3 or 4 times in my past as well, I'm confident it has to do with merging items from other scenes.   It must be related to a plugin or script or something.

Ok, plan B.  What happens if you try to load the material library from the source 3dsmax file?  If you do that and drag those materials into an empty slot, then reapply them... does it work?

One last question, out of curiosity...

Do the paths exist on the importing machine?  Meaning, is it the same directory and network folder structure?  Or is this a situation where it was brought home per se and then those network drives from work are no longer there?

Hi,

Have you tried merging in objects, one by one to a new scene? I know it sounds basic, but a lot of the time it gets rid of lots of ghost stuff. 🙂

I have to try to check every mesh then save as selected, and then merge on a new fresh file, but always go back to have those ghost bitmaps in scenery material.
Why the developer does not create a material interface like concurrence, easier to interface with a list of active materials where you have more than 36 were you can see as a list with icons and their names I am not talking about "slate interface" but the compact one,  where you can delete and they are gone for good?
