mrMaterialAttribs.gup terrorizing my workflow on every step

Hi ! 

 

using max 2019 , that issue appears every time I'm importing xref or adding custom path for textures 

any workaround to get rid of that plugin window appear every time ?

remove missing plugins

Fresh installed 3ds Max 2020 occurs the same. mrMaterialAttribs.gup is missing on startup. Created the new path to maxstart.max (cleaned by script) doesn't help.

neither of those methods work , still appearing that message 

any workaround ??

dll decription Material Custom Attributes (Autodesk)

 

I'm pressing open and then after 2 3 seconds again 

 

"FileName: mrMaterialAttribs.gup     Class: mental ray.....etc etc"

that time only one line and then I'm pressing open again and only then it continues to open scene 

 

where to take those 2 gups and where to paste them ?

He solved that problem coz he was able to install mental ray for max 

but there in no mental ray for max 19 and 20 so I'm still in trouble 

thank you for you help and waiting for AD advice 

maybe someone from devs can share that 2 3 4 files and tell us where to put those to get rid of that annoying issue

@alex.motion MR has been discontined unless you downloaded it in 2017 autodesk stop using it and change to the art renderer

I did that days ago but mental ray wont start installing 

screen appears and then disappears again 

I tried to unzip installer and even found that **** file inside but I don't know where to put it ... 

 

when I put that file into plugin folder max says it's not for that version ... 

underwater stones ...

I think scene converter should do the job

open scene then go to render scene converter when it opens 

delete missing mrattribute listed in yellow color and that's all 

it solved my issue

Mental ray for 3ds max 2018 run weel in win 7, if you try to install on win 10 in many case the installer dont' start.

This was killing me, its so frustrating.

Anywho.

Im pretty sure its trying to call an MR Parameter in the render defaults (like light MR shadows)

which doesn't exist anymore

change the default renderer to scanline (no mr) and it seems to go away.

do this go custom defaults switcher - i picked max Default UI.

 

Had to redo my custom UI buttons, but far out, that pop up was a killer

So I have not been using mental ray since 2007, and I installed a clean 3ds Max 2019 now and I am getting this error with literally every file in the studio. And we are using Corona.

I understand scene converter can be set to remove missing legacy plugins, but it doesnt get rid of the missing dlls error on every other old file that I havent removed legacy plugins. It is 2 popups, one is for missing dlls and the other one is scene converter trying to confirm conversion. 
This is very , very annoying to do for every asset file , because of a plugin that I didnt use in the first place .   

Will I have to lose 2-3 minutes every time I open a file for the rest of my work days ? 
Isnt there a way around it ? Cant 3dsmax deal with this internally by not giving me an error window ?

I just wanted to weigh in also. I'm still chronically terrorized by this error. The 'Solution' here may work for some but now for me. I think this bug goes beyond having the Render Converter try to manage it.

Just wanted to bump this so i may get a response as well
I'm also using corona and get this error in max 2018.

 

I had previously gone through the steps of installing mental ray but have since done a fresh install of max 2018 because when i DID have mental ray installed (which of course i never use anyway), There was some third party application that would start, asking me to update each and every time i opened a scene (so actually more annoying than the error message itself). updating the settings to 'dont check for updates' did not work, so it started each time regardless. So that is what led me to the fresh install.

Fresh install of 2021. Start Max, go to physical material change Preset. Immediately get this error. Any ideas? Is this a corona specific issue?

I also got this error from multiple files.  Its just from a fresh 3ds max 2021 installation. 

 

After using Scene Converter I still get the "mrMaterialAttribs.gup" prompt during loading. 

I also tried to clean it with the "removeMissingPlugins" script. 

 

Can't get rid of this message. back in 3dsmax 2019 I just was able to copy over the old MR plugins but it doesn't work anymore.

I don't even have to open a scene. Just change preset in Physical material after just opening MAX. I can't recall if this issue was there before installing Corona. I may uninstall and check. I had just installed hotfix 2.

Just want to mention i've got the same issue on a fresh install of max 2021 (using Corona to render). every Xref file i own, this message pops up when merging/copy pasting into a scene. the Silentium script at least suppresses it repeatedly, but still i feel it could be faster if it didn't appear at all. Would like to know how to fix it if possible. Thanks.
