maxstart.max

Hello. I know in order to change 3ds max's initial state, you need to alter the maxstart.max file. However, I don't know the steps involved. Can anyone help.

Go to your default project location and look in the 'Scenes' folder. See if you have a 'maxstart.max.' If so, load it and set it up the way you want it, scale, lights, etc. Then save it. If not, just open Max and set it up a file the same way and save it as 'maxstart.max'.  What I do now is go to it and back it up and change the backup name to 'maxstart.max.ORIG'. Now, take the other one 'maxstart.max' and right click on it. I make it 'Read Only' so it can't be modified by Max.

Now when you start Max you should have the starting file the way you want it.
