MAX 2011 x64 0xc000007b ERROR

Why does max 2011 x64, still gives same error (0xc000007b) as max 2010 x64 , on WIN7 ultimate?
Maya and softimage new versions run perfectly. So why does this happen with MAX?

Hope someone from autodesk can clarify this, as it is very annoying and affecting many people!

Regards

Got Norton installed? Disable Symantec Endpoint and see if that fixes it.

These are peer-to-peer forums - little involvement from Autodesk directly, so don't hold your breath waiting on an answer from them.

Max 2016 (SP1/EXT1)
Win7Pro x64 (SP1). i5-3570K @ 4.4GHz, 8Gb Ram, DX11.
nVidia GTX760 (2GB) (Driver 430.86).

According to Ken Pimentel in below (link) thread, the problem was Window 7 running 2010. Does anyone know if this problem was solved with subsequent hotfixes or with 3ds Max 2011 release?

There are some Win 7 specific bugs popping up. We haven't released fixes to these at this point. Win 7 is not officially supported at this time.

Thx for answering. It s exactly same error as MAX2010. Still is happening in 2011 x64.
What is weird is that maya and softimage run perfectly. Only max has this error.
Where is the catch?.-.... Something is deeply wrong. It was fixed for maya and softimage, but not max.
Very nice

Hi,

You want to know where is the catch?

There it is. I've got the same error message as you do, but after I uninstalled 3dsmax 2011 32 bit and 64 bit + component of each. Then I reinstalled them to the default location and everything worked fine.

Let me know if this resolve your issue.

Hi,
I am having the same problem with Maya 2011 x64 running on Windows 7. I have already installed windows 7 itself twice but the problem persists. Dont know whats wrong. Scanned everything with updated Nod32, installed latest version of DirectX, updated Windows, installed the latest nvidia drivers.

btw, is it somehow related to "adlmint.dll"?? For some unkown reason, the autodesk setup is creating adlmint.dll, adlmint_libFNP.dll & two folders en-US & ja-JP on my 😧 drive for no apparent reason!

I would like to think that autodesk shared componets such as licensing services and other files can cause this problem. I know for a fact that if you install older autodesk product after installing recent once you will have problems.
For example if you have Max 2011 and later install Image Modeler 2009, you are in trouble

Ok after countless hours of scanning for viruses and looking for answers i found out that:
It is not virus that any of anti-virus software can detect.
It is not the order in which Visual C++ 2005 and 2008 was installed

It was one of DirecX DLL files
For DirectX 9 MAX display drivers i think files was d3dx9_39
Not sure about Max directX10 display driver

Dll could get infected with some virus but the fact that no anti-virus in the world was able to detect any infection (which is no surprise due to viruses changing executable code and reversing it is not possible because each executable is unique) if virus made changes and moved on to next target or even killed its self at the end leaving no trace.
But i still think that at some point directX files were damaged or replaced by some crappy software i installed.

BTW my problem is now gone.

I hope this helps

I have never had any problems with 3dsMAX 2010 or 2011 on Win7 64bit Ultimate. I do know it is critical that that NOTHING is running when you install (shut down / disable all back ground programs, especialy virus and firewall software). Follow the installation instructions to the letter and all should be OK 🙂

sometimes it gets more complicated than this.
For instance my windows setup is automated (i wrote my own script for deployment) and directX is not installed but rather DLL files that are extracted during DirectX installation are placed into System32 and SysWow64 folders.
Somewhere along the way 1 or more of those DLL files were corrupted or not in the right place caused this error for me.

I tried to scan for viruses/reinstall DirectX/Reinstall Visual C++ and Net Framework and Max2011 even tried switching to 32bit and nothing helped.

In my case i know for sure i had DirectX DLL files related problem. It took me a while and several windows reinstall processes to narrow it down to this conclusion so i thought it might help to some people.

If your system is setup not the conventional way then you might want to consider following my steps by erasing DirectX DLL's and reinstalling DirectX, after all that was the only thing that helped.

IN the end this was just another way to deal with this problem and so far i have not seen any solutions that actualy fixed this problem. Well there was one, but it was Virus which could not be a part of my problem (i dont have viruses because i dont download them in the first place thanks to firefox addons)

In the end i narrowed it down to D3DX9_39.dll in system32 folder.
I erased file and reinstalled DirectX and then it worked.

Never had this issue during any of my past installations of Windows 7 x64 + Max 2011 x64.

Came across it today and "Agreed" with looser.

It's related to an installation error of the "D3DX9_39.dll"

During my 3ds Max installation the DirectX 9 installation part failed but the rest continued as usual.

Just delete the "d3dx9_39.dll" file from System32 and SysWOW64 folders inside the Windows directory.

Download and install the latest DirectX9c from Microsoft or use the websetup if you have it.

Cheers.

Hope this helped.

Kudos to looser.

I'm not surprised that failed - you must never install 2 versions in the same folder, that is just asking for trouble.

For everyone getting the "could not start the application - error (0xc000007b)" with Maya 2010/2011:

It seems this is a problem with some Autodesk products, including Maya, and Windows Vista/7, possibly moreso with 64-bit.

After searching for like two hours, I found a solution that worked for me:
Go to C:\Windows\System32 (and C:\Windows\SysWOW64 for 64-bit windows) and delete all .dll files that start with "d3dx__" followed by the directx version and some number, 24-43 for me. Apparently one or more of these directx dlls is corrupted.

Then, download the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer
here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3

This will find what files are missing, and download/install them.

Then Maya should hopefully work. Maybe 😄

Before trying this, I reinstalled the .NET framework and a few other things that I don't think helped, but might have. So if the above steps alone didn't fix the problem, try others' suggestions.
