Link Revit - FBX file empty

While linking 2016 Revit files into 3ds Max 2016 I get the error. "FBX File is empty. Do you want to link it anyway?" It is happening when the view contains a link to another Revit file. Even if it also contains elements in that model. The workflow worked fine in 2015. Linking the files from the original Revit model works fine.

I'm delighted about this by the way. I'm really looking forawrd to re-doing all of my work again in 2015. Why dont you guys stop concering yourself with freggin "Orginoids" and just get the dam software working correctly. WTF!!

If you hit load a second time, it will load the model, but you lose ALL your material definitions, UVW etc.

I understand Extension 1 for 3ds Max 2016 fixes this problem. There was a blog post today about the extension. But in my account manager it says the extension was made available on the 20th of last month. So I dont know, if anyone has time to test it post back. I may have time later this week. Thanks.

Many thanks! 🙂

At last!

The extension and service pack 1 combined download is dated today in my autodesk account enhancements list.

Just downloading it now to try out but the Readme lists a load of Revit related fixes so here's hoping.

The update worked for me, but there is a catch.

On the first reload of the referenced Revit file, all previously applied 3D studio materials are over written with the Default Revit materials.  For sequential reloads of the Revit reference, the 3d studio overwritten materials stayed in place.

To make this transition less painful, here is what I did.  (provided that you modifed the imported Revit materials, or possibly used the same name for the Studio material as the Revit Material.)

Open the existing scene prior to the reloading of the Revit reference.

Save the entire scene materials to a new material library.

Save a copy of your existing scene (in case this does not work for you) as a backup.

Reload the Revit reference.

Once reloaded, update the scene materials from the newly created material library.

This won't fix everything but it should correct the majority of it.
