Is there an alternate method to assign texture maps to models?

I believe I accidentally may have found a way to assign a texture map to a model. A way which does not rely in the standard Slate Material Editor.

I acquired this model of a bulldog:

     English Bulldog Real-Time Low-poly 3D model

It comes with a number of texture maps, for its skin:

Several Texture Maps.jpg

By now, I know how to assign those. BTW: I only care about the main one.

Next, I hired a Freelancer which performed some value added and delivered these two files:

    BullDog.max
    Bulldog_texture_New.jpg

Somehow, the MAX file knows about the existence of the *.jpg map. The string "Bulldog_texture_NEW.jpg" is inside it. The command "Asset Tracking" shows such dependency.

Delivered by Freelancer.jpg

However, the Slate Material Editor is empty.

So: how did the Freelancer perform the linking between the clay model and its hide?

TIA

Hi,

Probably he merged the geometry in a new Max file,

When you do that the objects materials will not show up in the material

Editor.

To fix that, in the Slate Material Editor, click the eyedropper labeled "Pick Material From Object",

Now click on the geometry and you'll see the material that belongs to the picked object is now

In the Slate Editor.
