Import Inventor view representations

Does anyone know if the View Representations from Inventor can be addressed during the import process?

It looks as though you get the "entire" Inventor model rather than the active View Rep.

There's nothing mentioned in the "Suite Workflow" tools, and nothing in the 3ds max import options.

I get the feeling I am answering my own question, so I'm clutching at straws in case someone knows a clever trick?

(You never know with crowd-sourced-technical-support!)

I'm specifically interested in 3ds max 2017 & Inventor 2017, but will happily accept any solution.

Typical...  Spend a day trying to figure it out, post the question on the forum, then figure out the solution 30 seconds after hitting "Post"!

If anyone else is searching for this, the answer is this easy:

  1. Create the View Rep in Inventor
  2. Right-click the view rep and select "Copy to Level of Detail"
  3. Activate the Level of Detail
  4. Save

Then it's simply a case of using the Suite Workflows or 3ds max's Import tool to bring the model into max.

Both options respect the geometry loaded in Inventor's Level Of Detail.

Assuming you don't want to keep the LOD in Inventor, just close without saving the file.
