I just published fresh builds for IFC importer plugins based on the opensource IfcOpenshell framework
Please follow the original post in the programming forum for the links to downloads (free) and more info
Plugins for 3ds Max 2015 - 3ds Max 2022 are available
Here's a sample import
Awesome stuff as always @spacefrog_. Thanks for sharing this!
Best Regards,
Alfred (AJ) DeFlaminis
Big thanks for the awesome plugin, spacefrog! I have one question, though - how do I install it?
I couldn't find a readme or an installation notice anywhere and just pasting the .dli file in the plugins folder of Max doesn't seem to work.
Thanks in advance!

hi again mister, do you know if it is avbailable for max 2024?
I 'll put it on my todo list , maybe i got some time this weekend
If you hear nothing next week , just ping me or post here , i'll probably forgot it ..
that should give me the necessary reminder ...
Sorry to disappoint, but i unexpectely have to go on a trip over the weekend and next week doesnt look too cosy workwise either. So i think the whole effort has to be postponed for about 2 weeks or so
Hi! No worries i install max 2023 while i wait, take your time and thanks for doing this 🙂
Hope everything is okey with you, have you managed to fix new version of this? Why dont autodesk include this? maybe copyrights problems
Lets put it that way:
New version is on the way. Just hit a lot of compile errors which i of course have to fix.
So this effort will spread a bit longer.
But as said, its in progress, but i only can work on it on my weekends
Finally i completed the IFC importer builds for 3ds Max 2020 to 3ds Max 2024 in another extensive weekend session!
The plugins are based on the IfcOpenshell codebase and again it was a bit of a hazzle until the compiler successfully spit out the binaries.
Please head over to my personal website for the download links !

In the mean time, here are some teaser images ( IFC import working together with the great new slice modifier )
( IFC data from Schependomlaan Dataset, available in the following github repo )
Hey, this is a great pluginn.
Any chance we could have an option to move the model before importing to handle large coordinates?
Thanks, thats a great suggestion
I'll put it on my "to investigate" list
yes , there are updated builds available based on the current OpenShell BlenderBIM/Bonsai codebase.
Those include 3ds Max 2025 support and various internal improvements.
Check your PM for a download link.
PS: Especially if the importer helps you in some commercial setting please consider supporting my efforts
