I need help importing VERY old flt files - "improper file format error"

I have FLT files from 2001 or earlier, authored on an SGI in GameGen.  When I try to import them into 3ds Max on a Windows10 PC, I get a pop up screen asking for the Vertex Threshhold and Trivial Area, each set for 1e-17.  I hit OK, then it runs for a while before an "Improper file format" message appears.    It's would be really a miracle if these files could be saved. Any ideas?

Can you share one of the files for testing?

Thank you for your reply.  It won't allow me to attach .flt files here, but here is a link to a Dropbox folder with 2 of the files.

Thanks so much!

I tried a couple of options, but I get the same error. What is the context for these files? Is this part of a game? If I search for FLT extensions, I get a reference to Adobe files.
