Hotfix 2.. Does it work

Hey everyone,
Quick question to those who disabled the wonderful view cube by the renaming method.

Does Autodesk's Hotfix 2008.05.01 "Hot fix 2" bring back to life the view cube or is it best to install hotfix and once again rename cube file and have it turned off?

thanks,

Rick

The fix doesn't resolve the viewcube problems. leave it turned off.

I actually don't get the whole idea of the viewcube...

I would reinstate the .gup - apply the hotfix (3 btw, not 2, for some inexplicable reason) - then dispose of the gup again.

Max 2016 (SP1/EXT1)
Win7Pro x64 (SP1). i5-3570K @ 4.4GHz, 8Gb Ram, DX11.
nVidia GTX760 (2GB) (Driver 430.86).

I know that everyone's outcome with the viewcube is different, but I was having one heck of a time with it crashing Max. I don't think I've ever seen Max crash that much (I've used every version except 4 in production).

The hotfix seems to have fixed the problem on my system. (Vista 64bit, GeForce 7900, Intel Core2 6600, 4GB Ram)...

The one thing I really love about the viewcube is that little home button. 🙂

The problem with only turning it off in the preferences is that the module is still loaded (taking up memory) and will still be initialised (executed - even if only to "register" itself). Any issues, such as those addressed by the hotfix) will still be present and may affect the system even though the onscreen features won't be available. Renaming the .gup prevents any of that happening, so in this case it's probably better to rename than simply disable.

Rick
