Hair and Fur renders too light

I'm using Hair and Fur on a flat editable poly to simulate grass.  The initial rendering pass shows the underlying poly properly, but the grass pass results in a very washed out color that doesn't reflect the material selected for either the poly or the grass.

Any suggestions to make a richer, healthier looking grass?

Thanks,

If you want the colors to be greener, I guess you can manually change the color under the modify and to make it more realistic I believe there is a round swirling button again under the modify tab, so that it would not look like little spikes.

Please let me know if this helps you
