I'm running into an issue where I'm trying to merge a file that was modeled in mm into a scene modeled in ft/in. The hair & fur modifier isn't coming in to scale, see attachments. I'm pretty new to 3ds and any insight would be greatly appreciated.
The attached image "Moss" shows how the model renders and "viewport" shows how it comes into my scene.
when you merge a scene file make make both units are set to the same. on the main toolbar go to custom unit setup and change it to the units you have in the other scene file you just merged.
Thanks for the reply, I tried this and the model comes in significantly out of scale when changing the units in it's original file to match my own. I checked the measurements in the original and it's correct, I've added a few more attachments for reference. Any ideas?
Go to utilities more rescale world units. if that doesn't help then there are a lot of tutorials on youtube
Hello @afrench87 ,
Just checking to see if your problem has been solved. Have you tried the above suggestion? Did it work?
Hello Lynn,
I haven't resolved the issue, no. It looks like when I change the units from mm to fractional it doesn't rescale it correctly. The model is 630mm across and when I change the units and save a new file it's 630 inches across when it should be roughly 25 inches. Again it looks like the hair and fur modifier is scale dependent and when I rescale the model to the correct size the modifier is wildly out of scale.
why are you using two different units, you should only be using one weather that is meters centermeters etc
if this doesn't work, My Model Scale is Wrong i cannot help you anymore
I didn't create the model I'm trying to import into my scene, the original creator modeled it in mm and I work in ft/in. I appreciate you're help but nothing in the link you sent has worked. I either get a model that is completely out of scale or I get a model that is to scale, but the hair & fur modifier is out of scale.
Another way of looking at this is, is there a way to bind/bake the hair & fur modifier to the model so when I adjust the scale the modifier scales with it? This is the core issue I'm having.
any solutions found to this by chance? I am running into a similar issue with a sherling/sheep skin type hair growth, and no matter what I do, since the hair modifier was made in mm it wont scale to inches. this is the result when I try to bring the sofa I want to adjust into the original file that the correct sherling/sheep skin hgmodifier was made in.
i know the answer but sorry for my English in not well
your model is made up with millimeter and your main scene is setup with inch
so your model is almost 25 time bigger than its must be (because of relation between inch and millimeter. every 1 inch is 25 mm)
you have to Rescale all Models 25 time smaller , but hair and fur Modifier do not scale properly.
before scale all thing , in modifier properties set the numbers that determine the dimension and size of hair and fur , like I did for one parameter in picture . after that you can scale all other models
I had the exact same problem.
Here's how I fixed it: before scaling, extract “splines from guides” from the hair, (Convert/ Hair -> Splines), scale the splines together with the geometry, and then in the Hair&Fur “Recomb from Splines” using the scaled one.
Hey Cpintani, I'm trying this method you described & nothing happens when I press, recomb from splines. Would you have any suggestions?
I'm pressing Hair -> Splines, Rescale object & splines, select hair & fur modifier on object, press recomb from splines, nothing happens.
Thanks!
