Functionality removed in 3ds Max 2018?

Hey everyone,

I just upgraded from 3ds max 2017 to 2018 and it seems that functionality I was using a lot has been removed.

removed functionality.jpg

Previously I could select the plane in polygon mode, hold ctrl and click on edges or vertices buttons at the right and it would change the selection to exactly the edges or vertices connected to the plane. Is this functionality removed in 2018? Or is it an optional and if so, where can I find the settings?

Kind regards

Hello @Anonymous,

It's working fine on my end, no changes here that I am aware of.  What happens when you do it?  No selection?  No change?  Which GPU do you use?  Possibly a graphics update issue?

My first suggestion is to try to reset your user settings, perhaps they have become corrupted somehow.  Can you please try that for me?  Thanks!

Thanks for your reply,

By resetting the user settings it was resolved.

To answer your questions:

When I did it there was no selection switch. Imagine you select edge 1, then you switch to polygon mode without holding ctrl and select polygon 1 which is surrounded by edge 1, 2, 3 and 4. If you then press ctrl and switch to edge mode it will only have edge 1 selected.

Im using an AMD Radeon R9 200

Kind regards,

Cambesa

Looks like you're in Edit Mesh mode (from the somewhat blurry screenshot), AFAIK that only ever worked in Editable Poly mode.

Thank you for the update @Anonymous.  I saw one other case of this and it was a Windows profile that was corrupt and it kept corrupting the user settings.  If this comes back a lot, you may try to make a new user in Windows.

@Anonymous, should work in both.  Tested and confirmed on this side.  Are you not able to use it in both?  Thanks!

Hello,

frankly I've not used Editable Mesh a lot in the recent years but, no it does not work.

You can turn on Max script listener to check what happens, so when I select a face on a Editable Poly object then CTRLclick on Vertex (selection group) it says

$.EditablePoly.ConvertSelection #Face #Vertex

if I do the same on an Editable Mesh, is only says

subobjectLevel = 1

meaning it only does a regular selection

Hello @Anonymous,

Ah yes, my mistake.  I read it as edit poly and editable poly rather then edit mesh and editable poly.
