Friday Pictures #4 - 3-24-17 - Share your WIPs!

Hello all!

I've been going back and making some revisions on old work this past couple weeks, thought I'd share a couple images.  I'd love to see what you are all working on too!

This project was made to compliment a presentation on global warming for a friend at a nearby college. All in all a learning experience and a fun time.  The scene was an exercise in simplicity, and I've included some screen shots of the actual scene in max as well as the warped image preview. These process images show an older version of the flag.  I've been making revisions of this slowly over the past couple months, but this is some of the scene setup images and things.  It's admittedly an older project but it gets attention from time to time when I just need to blow off steam.  The buoy model was based on another free model but then revised and remodeled.

Hoping to get @jon.bell in here, he's got something he's been showing at work lately that's really nice!  Can't wait to see what you've all been working on!

Best Regards,

it's really weird to notice a Technical Support Specialist using 3ds max 2016 instead of the latest release of max...

I don't see why, I mentioned it's an older project which was done before 2017 was released.  I also use Photoshop cc2014.  (Despite being on sub and there being multiple releases since then.)  I use Windows 7, despite two other versions of the OS coming out since it was released.  The jacket I wear to work during the cold months is a bright orange Adidas jacket I got when I was 17.  The elastic in the sleeves gave out like... long ago.  My car is 19 years old.  Ready for the kicker?  I have an iPhone 4.  Ha!

Seriously, this project started in 2015 before 2017 was released.

Yes it's incredible, never used anything else for large scale water after I purchased Phoenix. The great thing is, you don't even need to buy it the ocean tex its part of the demo, If I remember rightly.
How much time I wasted, trying to get something animated and believable with the native noises befor I knew this. Smiley Very Happy

With the new updates in 3 and the infinite ocean I was looking to play around with it a bit more and see if I could get some foam on those waves.  Haven't had a chance to really delve into it yet.

That thing is incredible... and so easy to create.  You're right in 2.2 I think the map was workable even with the demo.  This plugin has done a lot for me over the years...

Best,

Hey @Alfred.DeFlaminis,

Love the glow around earth could use some of that heat right now. How timely to do a dedicate thread for Earth Hour

Speaking of global warming, my team recently worked on a project with David Usher & The Human Impact Lab to simulate the rising seas.

You can view the project here >> http://www.humanimpactlab.com/the-rising-seas/.

Hard to think San Francisco could be submerged if we don't take action against global warming.

@Ihno any interesting features you notice here?

Cheers,

Melissa

Nice work AJ!

Aww @bob.bernstein, you're such a nice guy, thanks for the kind words.  😉

@melissa.lax,

That's interesting, I like the visual style on that page.   I don't know if you've seen the Google timelapse part of maps, but if you go towards icebergs it's scary.

@Alfred.DeFlaminis there's a Vice series where they visit melting icebergs. The sound is deafening...

I always jump on things like this and search what you guys are on about, hoping it's something i can use... and then i see the price they put on wonderful stuff like that... Smiley Sad

No fun when you're a small hobbyist... could've used some fluid simulation for my upcoming project.

(Easter, Smiley WinkSmiley Wink).

Now I'll just have to figure out how to do what i want in Max without a helpful plugin.

Hello @-niels-,

Currently there is no way to do fluids in 3ds Max natively.  There used to be a free plugin for it called Glu3D, but I believe that site is no longer up.  Otherwise, the options from cheapest to most expensive are Lucid, Phoenix FD, and then RealFlow.

If you have access to other Autodesk software that can do fluid sim, you may be able to move it from that software to Max as an alembic file or something of that nature, but otherwise this is an area of Max that currently doesn't exist.  Smiley Frustrated

Hello! I would like to know how you have done to apply the texture of the sea in a 360 environment, because when I do the render, it not apply all the texture to the equirectangular space, can you teach step by step? thanks a lot.
