DCC Link, 3ds Max Interactive Issues

Anonymous
Not applicable

Max 2018 will not start when the DCC link plugin is installed.

If I uninstall the DCC link program, from Windows control panel, Max will start normally again.

3ds Max Interactive seems to work with or without the DCC Link app running.

3ds Max 2018 will not launch at all when the DCC plugin is running. Event log says fault in module "ExchangeStorePackageManager.dll"

When Max 2018 is running. the "Interactive" menu item jumps to the webpage about installing 3ds Max Interactive.

So, the docs say that these two apps should work together, but in my case they absolutely do not.  Any help here would be appreciated.

The path: "C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\StingrayDCCLink_Max2018.bundle\Contents" does not exist on my system.

The path "C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\3dsMaxInteractiveDCCLink_Max2018.bundle\Contents" does exist after installing the DCC Link plugin. This is where the dlu plugin resides evidently.

Adding this path to the 3rd party plugin system path does not have an effect.

Max 2018.1 update installed

Win 10 1703

Each time a failed launch of Max is made with the DCC plugin installed the event viewer gens out this:

@Alfred.DeFlaminis,

Yes, I've been emailing with @electrotoast_old. Somewhere on the forum, I read to add the path to the 3rd party plugins. Maybe my bad, but  I read:

C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\StingrayDCCLink_Max2018.bundle

So with the installer from @electrotoast_old, (Stingray)

I added NOT C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\StingrayDCCLink_Max2018.bundle

But:

C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\StingrayDCCLink_Max2018.bundle\Contents

To the systems path ->3rd party plugins

It works!!!!

I didn't try this with the Interactive one.... Not sure If i wanna mess up the pipeline again Smiley Wink

@Alfred.DeFlaminis, sorry... I did test it with the DCCLink from the interactive installer...... 3dsmax 2018 won't even start in this case... even no splashscreen.

Ok, so that didn't work for me, never had Stingray installed.

Found another workaround for max 2018.1 and Max interactive:

1. Install Max Interactive -> Max2018.1 not working -> go to C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\3dsMaxInteractiveDCCLink_Max2018.bundle

and copy that folder to a different (random) location ie: G:\Autodesk\3dsMaxInteractiveDCCLink_Max2018.bundle

2. Uninstall DCC Interactive Link -> Max2018.1 working again -> go to configure system paths - 3rd party plugins and add a path to that copied folder, for me it worked with contents/plugins, so the full path would be: G:\Autodesk\3dsMaxInteractiveDCCLink_Max2018.bundle\Contents\plugins

3. Now Max2018.1 starts and shows interactive menu with greyed out items. Link between Interactive and Max still doesn't work.

4. Install DCC Interactive Link again and before you start Max go to the C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\ folder and delete everything that DCC Link installed.

5. Now link works and Max loads the plugin itself form a different location. Everything works, live link too. Amazing.

Hope that helps.

Cheers

Hmm, this is very bizarre. However, I feel like we are narrowing in on a cause. We have passed this on to one of our devs and see if we can get it nailed down.

I can't thank you all enough for helping us out with this!

Thank you very much for posting your findings @WojtekOgrodnik and @jordi_bergboer,

As @electrotoast_old mentioned we're honing on on this one.  For those of you who are joining the thread recently or have been here a while, it would be great to get a copy/paste of your listener windows if you are having problems with it.  (And thanks so much!)

@jordi_bergboer, are you unable to start Max still?  (Or did you uninstall it?)  Thanks for the information.

Best Regards,

@Alfred.DeFlaminis, I've got Max running. But.......... I'm Using the StingrayDCClink provided by @electrotoast_old. In this setup everything works fine.

When I install the MaxInteractive_Dcclink.... Max won't start up anymore.... (just a few secs in te taskmanger with a size of 1 kb(????))

Cheers, Jordi

Yup, I had exactly the same problem, workaround I've posted above seems to solve all problems. Basically it is installing the dcc link (interactive, not stingray), changing plugin location and pointing max to it. Location of the plugin itself seems to be an issue here.

I too was not able to open Max 2018.1 once the interactive dcc link was installed.

steps 1 thru 5 is the only way the interactive link was fixed for me in max 2018.1

Took me a very long time to finally fix this issue and now that my addins folder is in a different locations on my harddrive

I consider this as only a temporary solution IMHO.

Thank you WojtekOgrodnik for the solution

I would recommend to Autodesk that all the necessary dcc links get installed automatically and not required to be installed "manually"

@Alfred.DeFlaminis

I've finally managed to fix this problem using the 5 steps out lined in the post marked as a solution.

At first I though it was linked to .Net 4.7 and the Windows Creators update, but this does not seem to be the case.  It looks like it is an issue with the DCC link.  Any news on updates for 3dsMax and Interactive to fix this?

Hello @Carl_mgfx,

A couple issues cropped up and all happened at about the same time so I'm not surprised if it was a bit confusing.  Thank you very much for posting your update and question.  This issue has been logged for QA and development to review and I have also updated it with the workaround and link to this thread.

This is my post from another thread. This sound like a similar problem.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Last night, I installed my 2018 suite (3ds max 2018, Maya 2018, MB 2018, and Mudbox 2018). I opened all of the 2018 stuff and they looked okay. This morning I installed the latest Windows update without any issues. Then I tried to open Max 2017 to do some work. I immediately got the Windows application crash notice window. The one that gives two options: "Check online for a solution and close the program" and "Close the program." It listed the "Problem Event Name" as APPCRASH and the "Fault Module Name" as ExchangeStorePackageManager.dll.

I tried to open Max 2018 and immediately after double-clicking the desktop icon, I got the same message. I ran repairs and reinstalls on both versions of Max, but the problem persisted. I uninstalled the Windows update. They still crashed before they even got started.

I read on the Forum that somebody had uninstalled Max Interactive and fixed a crash problem so I did the same thing. Still, both versions of Max crashed as soon as I clicked the icon.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

After I reinstalled Max 2018, I could not find max 2018.1 in my account downloads. I assume that 2018.1 is not installed because of the Max 2018 re-installation. I'm going to re-install Max Integration to see if I can find the file/folder configuration that has been discussed here. Right now, I'm dead in the water. Max 2017 and 2018 can't make to the splash screen. All of the other software, 2017 and 2018 are working.

Max 2017 and 2018 are now working, in the absence of Max Interactive and DCC link plugin.

I used Revo Uninstaller to remove the DCC link plugin. Now, both versions of Max (2017 and 2018) open up.

I did not notice the DCC link plugin in the Windows uninstaller. I may have simply overlooked it in the mess. I don't know. I found it in Revo Uninstaller and did the uninstall from there.

Thanks to WojtekOgrodnik and everybody else who discussed this problem. I guess that Max Interactive will get fixed for people like me.

Hello @3DKodo,

It is not yet addressed in an update but there are emails and internal communications happening about this on a daily basis.  The pathing is something that needs to be addressed on the Autodesk side, but it appears there may be some issues with .Net 4.7 that also may be hindering progress.  I will update this thread when I know more.

this looks like it was fixed with Stingray 1.9 it seems like the stingray ray 1.9 dcc plug in replaces the 3ds max interactive one
