Cannot Remove Custom Attribute on Imported Model

I modeled and UV'd a mesh in Maya 2018.  I then exported it via FBX and imported it into 3ds Max 2018.  I noticed that there was a custom attribute rollout on the mesh that had one custom attribute entitled "currentUVSet" with a value of "map1".

If I export the mesh as an OBJ and import into 3ds Max, there is no such custom attribute.  It only occurs with FBX.

How do I delete this custom attribute?  I tried the Parameter Editor.  However, it does not even see the custom attribute.  It is as though it is a phantom attribute that you cannot get rid of.

Have you tried something as simple as right clicking on the model and converting to edit poly??

@jamesw,

When I import the FBX, it comes in as an editable poly.  I have tried changing that to an editable mesh and back again to editable poly.  However, the custom attribute remains.

Hey just select the model in element mode and detach as clone. Then delete the original. It's the only way I've figured out how to remove that custom attribute UV channel info.

@Anonymous,

Your method works.  Thank you.

It would be nice if FBX worked, too.  It is a bit of a pain to do an element copy of each mesh I bring into 3ds Max from Maya to eliminate that custom attribute.  I know I could overcome this issue if I simply use OBJs.  However, I would prefer to use FBX straight up without workarounds.

Hello @JabbaTheNut,

My best suggestion is to submit a Feature Request.  If you do, please post the link to it in this thread.  As people find this link they will also find your feature request and that helps a lot to get the votes.  Thank you!

Best Regards,

Thanks-- I voted. It definitely needs to be easier to remove custom attributes like that.

Voted @JabbaTheNut.

@Swordslayer also posted the following code snippet:

for i = custAttributes.count $ to 1 by -1 do custAttributes.delete $ i

I tested it on an object from Maya with the attribute mentioned in this thread and it did remove it.  Great work Swordslayer!

Best Regards,

Hi

just used your code to remove an attribute, it works, is there anyway it could be modified to remove an attribute from multiple selected objects at once?

Thanks

This does the trick.

for i = $.count to 1 by -1 do
(custAttributes.delete $ i)
