Can't delete anything in 3DS Max 2019

MAX 2019 and I am not able to delete anything in my scene. Rebooting MAX solved it, but I shouldn't have to delete my software to delete things. The same thing happens with keyboard shortcuts; they sometimes stop working.

I have the same issue and I've tried all what you suggested, and still the delete button doesn't work. I just downloaded 3ds Max 2022 recently and I'm kind of new to 3ds Max. Also I wanted to say that deleting manually from the menu bar works, it's just the shortcut "delete" button that doesn't work even after restarting it doesn't fix the issue.

Hi @whitebirchstudios and @Anonymous,

I just wanted to revive this thread to see if you were still having these issues, and if not, if we could mark one of the posts here as a solution. Please let us know, and thanks!

I'm getting this issue and I'm on 3DS Max 2022.3.

I haven't tried creating a new ENU folder just yet, and will give that a try, but yes, it's not working for me all of a sudden and of course is a major pain (and embarrassing when you discover it during a screen sharing session with a client, which, by the way, 3DS Max also crashed during.....)

@jon.bell

Hi Jon,

I'm having problems and I ran that piece of code in my Listener Window and it came as False and then I renamed my ENU folder and restarted and yes, the Delete now works, so I'd like to take you up on your offer to send you my 'corrupted' ENU folder to investigate.

Please can you provide me with your private OneDrive so I can send my files/folder to you?  (it is 144Mb in size)

Many thanks.

MAX 2024 and it still happens.

John Bell no longer works at Autodesk, he's retired and working as a freelance support agent.  My best suggestion is to file a support request at manage.autodesk.com so this can be followed up on.

@JezEmin and @whitebirchstudios , you should list all your plugins and see what you have in common.  Chances are it's a conflict between plugins, but that's only my guess.

Best Regards,

Alfred (AJ) DeFlaminis

3ds max 2025.3. this issue persists in the latest version of 3ds max and it is quite random. the delete button just stops working and we have to reboot 3ds max (and that is not good, sometimes I have to wait over 10 minutes to open a bigger project, if this happens 6 times that means 1h lost... that is over 10% of a working day lost due to not being able to delete objects)

I am glad that I am not the only one. I post it, and people think I am crazy!
