3ds max problem

Hi, I was wondering if you could help me with a problem ive been having with 3ds max 2015. I am currently in the middle of doing a character rig, everything was working fine until today but now it isnt letting me move any new objects they automatically get snapped to 0,0,0 and the lock is not on. This happens in every scene I open not just the one im currently working on. I was thinking i maybe clicked on something by accident? People have been telling me i may have to un installl. Any advice on this matter would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Load Max, start a new scene, create a Box. Can you move it? If yes then the problem is in the original scene and it will be difficult to know what's causing it without the scene in front of us. If no, then you probably managed to change the default controllers.
Select the Box, Command Panel > Motion tab > expand the Assign Controller rollout. It should look like the one in the attached image. If it doesn't then you need to assign the correct controllers AND make them the default. Highlight the incorrect controller (eg. Position). Click the Assign Controller button (at the top of the rollout) and choose Position XYZ from the list. Click Make Default and agree to the dire warning then click OK.

This didnt seem to work. Could it have something to do with float expressions or wire parameters?

Very unlikely in a new scene. In your existing scene - possibly. Please create the sample scene as above, if you can't move the Box save the scene, zip it and attach it to a reply so we can look at it.

I followed a tutorial on resetting the preferences. Going into the ENU folder and deleting the configuration preferences file. This worked for the next scene that i opened but when i opened another test scene it again didnt work.

That is very strange. The problem is that the Position isn't just a PositionXYZ but is actually a Float List, which it shouldn't be by default. The Rotation has the same problem by the way.
Highlight the Position, assign a different position controller (TCB Position will do) and OK (but don't make default). Check that it says TCB Position in the Assign Controller rollout, then repeat the procedure but this time pick Position XYZ and click Make Default as well before OK. Same for the Rotation, change to TCB Rotation, OK, Euler XYZ, Make Default, OK.

If it goes wrong again then I can only think that you have some script or maybe a plugin which is changing them. You need to find that and remove it as it's clearly not right. Remember that what we're setting here are the defaults for new objects - existing objects may well already be wrong, so you'll have to change them all manually, just like you just did with the box. Make sure, by expanding the Position XYZ, that it has not turned into a List at any point (ditto with the rotation).

This has solved my problem. Thanks so much. I must have changed that without realising. I now can add new objects, move and rotate them in all my scenes. Your help was much appreciated. Thanks again.
