Rigging and animating facial expressions for an Autodesk generated character

Hi 🙂

I've selected and downloaded an .fbx character from Autodesk, the facial expressions are present as it's paid student account, but I didn't see any rigging for use in 3ds Max or Motionbuilder.

Does anyone know if the bone rigs are only available for Maya?

If that's true, can phenomes only be produced in Maya?

Thanks to anyone who can help 🙂

Sincerely,

Crystal

Hi @Anonymous,

all shapes are exported to the fbx files when set up for it in the Generate Character UI.

Once imported in Max, selecting either of the Meshes (H_DDS_ *Res) go in Modify Panel, below Skin Modifier there is a Morpher modifier with all the Blend Shapes.

In Motion Builder, selecting either of the Meshes (H_DDS_ *Res) go in the Resouces panel > Properties tab > Shapes rollout, the shapes are there too.

In Max and in Mobu, the only known current "limitation" is that you'll have to animate (or link animations) of the lower teeth to follow the jaw.

All shapes are included.

I've attached a video so it is visual in Max and Motion Builder. I've used Max 2017 and Motion Builder 2016 in the video, any version of Max or Motion Builder will have the same shapes.

I hope this can help! 🙂

Thank you so much @ads_royje!! I'll try this.  I've been learning on the fast track for the past year but it's probably been too fast with these micro courses and I can't wait to be out of school so I can really immerse and learn.  You've helped me so well in the past and thanks for what you've done today! 🙂

Sincerely,

Crystal
