Been dealing with this annoyance since I first used 3DS Max and I'm fed up with having this issue.
So, the problem is that if I rotate a parent bone the child bone's axis will not be aligned with the character model. What I mean is:
Here I have the Arm bone (The elbow). The yellow line on the axis looks like it should stay aligned with the arm if I rotate the shoulder bone.
Wrong...I rotated the shoulder and now I have to deal with trying to keep the elbow bone straight while rotating.
What I want to do here is find out how I can have the axis aligned with the rotated parent bone so that I can move the bones on a straight axis.
Is there a solution for this? I'm work with helpers by the way.

Hi @derek.mallard ,
This is usually related to the gizmo pivot setup, as I cannot see this in your screenshots, can you check if you are set to use the Local Axis for the Gizmo pivot ?
Regards,
🙂
Glad to read it was the issue!
Thank you for your feedback!
