Hello!
I have installed 3DS MAX 2013 (student version) on a Macbook pro, using windows 8 in bootcamp. in addition to that I sometimes run the same partition as a virtual machine from OSX using parallels.
My assumption is that because 3DS sees the virtual machine as a different computer my serial is now "broken" or something because of all the hardware "changes".
I have tried reinstalling a few times and also deleted the license files & changed the license service to "automatic" as it was suggested.
Nothing seems to work, so again I guess the problem is with the serial number itself, is there a way to get a new serial? (I will only use 3DS through the windows partition, not the VM in future..)
Thank you for the help, I have loads of homework to do with 3DS
P.S..
Is there a phone# I can call to talk to someone about this ? (I was unable to fined a way to contact someone about this matter)

bnmnsh,
Hello. You have a few complications here. One, Win 8 is brand new and you are putting it in parallels. I am not surprised there is a conflict as the configuration you are using to try to run this is so new- we are talking weeks old and our software was released 8 months before this config was available.
But this is a licensing error, so it is sort of pointing to the licensing technology and not the program functions. I am guessing this is a standalone installation. Your serial is not the problem- likely a registration file.
Let’s try to reregister:
We are looking for a specific TSF file. It will resemble this: ADSKFLEX_NUMBERS_TSF.data. It should be located here:
Vista/Windows 7/maybe Win8??:
C:\ProgramData\FLEXnet
Find this data file and change the extension to something different, like ADSKFLEX_NUMBERS_TSF.data.BAK or completely move it from this folder. We don’t want to destroy it, just get it out of the way.
After it is moved or renamed, start the program. A new TSF DATA file will be created and possibly a log file. If the program now works, great, if not, delete the NEW TSF.DATA file and the log and place the original file back in this location, or rename back to ADSKFLEX_NUMBERS_TSF.data
Now try to start the program. If you are asked to register, do so and you should be set.

Hello dembkod,
First of all Thank you very much for helping me out on this one.
Sadly though I was unable to solve the problem, I did find the files and renamed them, than I fired up 3DS and again got Error 41, no new files were created in the folder, I changed the names back to what they were and the still error 41.
It did run smoothly on win8 - can AD reset the student serial or something ?
Would you be so kind to think of another solution?
Cheers,
-Ben
Update: After completly removing any trace of 3DS MAX including registries and than reinstalling everything seems to work finally =))
Thank you very much again!
Cheers,
-Ben
dembkod,
I'm hoping you can help me! I too am receiving the Error 20 message ("License failed to check out. Error 20"). Even after trying your solution, the problem persists. What are some other solutions I can try?
I too searched for a phone number to call customer service only to find there apparently isn't one. I searched this and every other forum I could find for a solution, and after not finding one I emailed customer service for help, only to receive a response that told me to check the forums. It has now been almost seven days since I was able to even open your program which is intergral to my school work.
Please Help!
Faith1283,
Hello. If this is a Standalone installation, you should uninstall the program through the Control Panel then delete any residual folders in these locations- they should be clearly named with your product name:
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\
C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\
C:\Program Files (x86)\Autodesk\
C:\Users\All Users\Autodesk\
C:\Users\**YOUR USERID**\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\
C:\Users\**YOUR USERID**\AppData\Local\Autodesk\
You can also delete the ADSKflex_*** files in the c:\programData \flexnet location. This will likely make you re-register any other Autodesk products you may have installed.
Log in with an Admin account, turn off Windows UAC and Antivirus and give the install a go.
