Vred 2021 to Unreal Engine problem

Hello,

I can't get the Unreal Datasmith Export plugin to work with Vred 2021. I'm following the unreal online documentation.

https://docs.unrealengine.com/en-US/Engine/Content/Importing/Datasmith/SoftwareInteropGuides/Deltage...

....but I keep getting this error when start up looks for the plugin folder!

Any help much appreciated...

You have to ask Epic, we have no association with that plugin, neither do we support it. We just don´t block it even though it uses methods to integrate into our UI we don´t encourage. So if it doesn´t work, they have to fix it.

I haven't figured it out completely, but I figured out some of it- maybe this will help someone.  I can't find the link right now, but I did find a tidbit of information which stated the Datasmith plugin doesn't work with the current version of VRED (2021).  I believe it only works with 2018, 2019 and 2020, as of now.

Where to place the plugin was not documented very well.  It took me a while to figure out the location to place the "VREDPlugin" folder.  Here is where worked for me (VRED 2020): C:\Program Files\Autodesk\VREDPro-12.0\lib\plugins\WIN64\Scripts\VREDPlugin\DatasmithExporter

You need to restart VRED.  If it's installed correctly, when you go to: File >Export Scene Data >

you'll see an option for: Export to Datasmith

Although I've been able to export .fbx and open in in UE4, the Variants and Animations did not seem to work and the hierarchy/grouping was gone.  It would be really nice if this worked, since setting up a Variant in VRED takes about 3 steps; whereas it takes more like 50 steps in UE4.  If anyone has had success, please comment!
