Make an object invisible, but still cast shadows?

Hi there,

I'm trying to export only the shadow cast on the floor as a separate PSD or PNG layer. One way would be to make the object invisible, while still cast shadows, but I'm not sure if the feature is available in VRED Design 2020.

(Any other workaround would be welcomed)

Thanks!

J

Hi,

you could bake light and shadows on your floor and then turn off your model.

Baked shadows remains also if the model is moved or off.

Or you can try to use renderpasses while rendering, then use only the renderpass you need.

Best

Thanks Chris. I forgot to mention that this is part of an animation, with the vehicle moving across a scene and the camera rotating.

I could move the floor with baked shadows along with the car, but the angle of the shadow changes slightly every frame.

I prefer the sharper shadow from Open GL for this particular scene, which I will then addto the Raytraced vehicle in After Effects

This might be one of the missing elements from VRED Design v. Professional....

Are you sure that Vred design does not have Renderpasses?

Watching this chart it should have them.

... but watching the renderpasses panel, i don't know if it is possible to have only shadows.....

VRED Design has Renderpasses for Offline Rendering (Render Settings Module) but no real-time viewport preview. Don´t mix it up with Renderlayers. No Renderlayers in Design!
