Importing Plant 3D project to VRED

Hi Everyone,

for design reviw and presentation for customers I want to import Plant 3D Projects to VRED.

After importing a Plant 3D dwg file in VRED most of the objects like pipes do not appear in VRED.

For a specific Project a CAD engineer convertet every object into solids and blocks but it took almost a week.

Is there an easier way to get all geomitry it into VRED?

Hi, what file format do you used from Plant3D to Vred?

Have you tried to convert from Dwg to Fbx?

Could you provide a small sample to make some test?

Best

Hi, thank you for your reply.

I earlier tried many formats including dwg, dwf, dfx, nwc, nwd sat and iges.

For most formats VRED could not import or a node with no geometry was generated, for dwg at least a part of the geometry was imported (see attachment for minimal example)

After exporting it from Navisworks to fbx it seems to show everything but all parts have their own material and many of them changed to black, i will look further into it.

Hi, i suppose all is related to Plant Proxy entities...

i found ths article from Autodesk:

https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/What-is-the-best-w...

I cannot make it work but i do not have Plant installed.

Can you try it?

best

Chris
