Deleted Switch Materials keep showing up

Hi everybody,

I have this "issue" that's really driving me nuts.

When I use the "Remove Unused" tool in the Material Editor, the unused materials get removed as expected.

Unfortunately when I save the scene and open it back, the switch materials appear again in the lister, every time, no matter how many times I "Remove Unused", save, close and reopen.

They just keep showing up over and over.

Do you have any tips for fixing this weird behaviour?

Thank you!

Hello, if you open the Variants module, then select Material Variants tab.

Press the '+' button to update it then try "Remove Unused" again to get the option to "Delete Both".

Hi Daniel,

that button creates a new empty variant set. It does not update anything.

Also the switch materials in the Matrial Editor keep showing up even when I delete them from both the editor and the variant set.

This happens since many many versions of VRed before, it's not a new thing. I though that by now someone might have figured out why that happens and how to fix it.

Thanks for the help!

Hello, Is it possible to send me the VRED file for further testing?
Also, do you know if Photometric Parameters have been enabled in this file before?

Unfortunately I cannot share my working file.

Though that isn't needed, because the issue shows up with any file, no matter what is in the scene.

No photometric parameters enabled, although that would be irrelevant to the type of problem I am experiencing.

Thank you

I can´t reproduce your described behavior on my site. When you say it happens with every file you can probably easily create a dummy scene with some spheres and materials reproducing the issue und upload. Which VRED version are you using? Any Plugins or Scripts in use? Thanks

I could create a dummy file, as you said, but I won't be sure the issue would show up, because it's not systematic, it's random, though it happens very often.

VRED version is 2021.3 Pro.

I will try to recreate the issue and, if I succeed, send the file to you, thank you very much.

Hi Chris,

yes, I steel need help if anything can be done about this.

It's not a work breaking issue, but definitely annoying nonetheless.

Thank you.

Hi Chris

I had the same problem, I think it was caused because I imported a VRED file from a friend.

The only solution I found was going to the variants panel (not the variant sets) and delete all the material variants in there, after that I deleted the switches from the Materials and saved the file as a copy, after re-opening I confirmed the ghost materials were gone so I went back to the problem file and went over all the variants and deleted one by one. I also deleted all the geometry so the file save could be faster, the purpose was just to find out the problem variants.

That's interesting.

Unfortunately I am not really looking forward to redoing all the variant sets for the project I am working on, I would have to spend hours that I don't have.

Nonetheless I will give it a go just for testing purposes.

Thank you.
