Best practice find nodes

Hi,

what is best practice to find the same nodes over different vred sessions?

nodeId

  • not consistence over different vredSessions

nodepath

  • not unambiguously (Problems with duplicate nodeNames)
  • robust against some nodeGraphChanges

unique nodepath

  • unambiguously
  • less robust against nodeGraphChanges

writing your own ids in the vrNodes

  • unambiguously
  • robust
  • i have to change the scene (maybe i'm not allowed to...)

Any other ideas?

Best regards,

Marc

Accepted solution

There is no general solution for this. The unique-nodepath is the best general option. Depending on your actual use case you might want to check the tags/metadata if you want to select groups of objects.

There is no unique identifier in VRED as it comes with its own set of issues (for example when merging scenes, duplicating objects, splitting and merging objects again and so on).
