2019.2 Self-reflection in OpenGL in VR

Hi, I just watched the Autodesk VR Center of Excellence and VRED 2019.2 on youtube...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfJ-7xgX7YA&app=desktop

How do we set up Self-reflection in OpenGL in VR like the video so you can see your Avatar in the mirrors?

Thank you,

Shawn

Notes from the video:

We integrated VRED Professional 2019.2 in the VR Center of Excellence. This version offers many great features and enables us to make the special effects in our Munich VR Center even more unique. Have a look on how VR and Collaboration with multiple devices can be used.

Some of these ideas are:

- Advanced Greenscreen Functionality

- Auto-Follow Camera for VR Avatars

- Raytraced 3rd Person View

- Self-reflection in OpenGL in VR

- Collaboration between an iPad and an HMD (using VRED Server and VRED Pro)

Please note that all effects in this video are rendered in Realtime on a single Workstation with VRED 2019.2

I think we see actually two things in the video. The full avatar reflecting in the side door of the car is raytraced from a spectator 3rd person view being in the collaboration session but not in VR. This isn´t two complicated as this is reflection only with pre-computed shadows. If you have a strong workstation (or cluster) this shouldn´t be a big deal at all.

The 2nd thing is the avatar reflecting in the side and rear mirror. Kudos for the nice trick the guy did. As you know area lights reflect in OGL in high reflective materials. And they can also carry textures. So the guy created a front view image of the head with an alpha channel and attached an area light (with that image) to the avatar head .osb that is loaded when entering VR. Et voila, it looks like you watching yourself when looking into mirrors!

Thank you Pascal. That is some work and trickery to get that result.  Hopefully it will be simpler and possible with future versions of VRED.
